High Cost of Reserving an Xbox
« on: August 18, 2001, 04:58:10 PM »
Hey.

I found >>this<< link on Slashdot

quote from Slashdot

Quote

The LA Times is reporting that Microsoft is encouraging retailers to bundle Microsoft games with each XBox. "Beginning next month, many retailers will be requiring customers to pay from $499 to as much as $1,200 to reserve an Xbox console that, like it or not, will come bundled with games, peripherals and warranties. The reason: Microsoft will provide additional marketing money to merchants that agree to include the software giant\'s games in their bundles. That\'s because Microsoft\'s games carry higher profit margins for the Redmond, Wash., company than those published by third-party companies such as Activision Inc. and Electronic Arts Inc.""

cool huh

i dont wanna shell out 500$+ to preorder a system!!!!

if thats the price of the system they launch at, they WILL NOT DO WELL!!!

well sure they will couple it with games, but still what if they give you a game that you dont want??

thats really stupid... i dont think that will make people want to run out to buy the console if it is 500$+ including games.

but yet, i wonder why microsoft chose this ploy..
IM BACK. you have a problem with that? get in the back.

This isn\'t the first time I\'ve ever this. Someone who works at EB actually told me that if I wanted to reserve the Xbox I\'d have to pay for games  , etc. I personally think its stupid as hell.

This is just for the total slagoffs who just NOW want to register the X-Box.

I am betting that the smart ones who did it months ago are still going to be able to get it for 300 bucks, with the requirement of nothing further.

MS is doing everything right except for this... this is going to piss off a lot of potential buyers (or at least the pre-orderers).

Yo this just sucks:mad:    I don\'t wanna pay all this to reserve a console. bUT what how much did those ps2 bundles cost in december, and november with 2 games. Weren\'t there $600 dollar ps2 bundles. Yep 2 games 2 dvd 2 controllers or a controller and memory card. True those were not preorders, but interms of bundles.

Yep.. But the thing is Sony didnt force the stores to do that..
The stores did it by them-selves..

Sony didnt have anything to do with that. (they only provided games and machines..) ;)

True you weren\'t force like ms is doing.. this pisses me off. Well I guess there not even trying to compete with gamecube. This is going to cause low system sales. And why are they forcing you to choose MS only games?

Man xbox has some really good software and this is not the way to start off selling a system. I hope they stop this because it would be a shame for xbox too not do good cause of this because it has really good games coming out for it.

Well MS is loosing alot of money on the Xbox..
And they need people tp buy their first-party games to make a profit..

Well I like a lot of the ms first party software but I don\'t think I should be forced to pick over good third party software. This is a bad business move. Because this shuts third parties out.

So not only would i be able to buy a PS2 , but i would also be able to get a NGC and games for both of them rather than a Xbox.......

Hmmmmmmmm

i know where my money would go.
