Old Online games

What cool old online games are there out there that are still played a lot?
I was wanting to try them out since I\'ve never played anything online. I am wanting to know older ones cause I dont want to spend too much money and my computer isnt that powerful and I have only got a 56k modem.
And I\'m not really interested in FPS

Cheers:p

Battlezone was a really great online game, if you can find good people to play with.  I\'m talking about the Activision title released in 1997.  If you find it, be sure to patch it to the newest version available, and run it under whatever version of DirectX was available at the date of the last patch.  I think it might work best under DirectX 6.x or something like that.

All the other "old" multiplayer games I used to play were FPS\'s, but you might want to try Homeworld.  It was a great single player AND multiplayer game.  It might be taxing for your PC if your hardware is too primitive.

The Zone has a ton on online games that are played regularly. Age of Empires 2 :the age of kings is a great and very very addicting game to play. if you like building up an empire, and destroying other people online, like starcraft, only better, buy that game. and buy the patch also.

rogue spear is played also, but that is a fps.

but i must say, Age of empiires is maybe the best game i have ever played.
IM BACK. you have a problem with that? get in the back.

Thanks guys. I\'ll try age of empires i think if my computer can hanlde it. My computer is supposed to have 64 MB Ram but when I check the hardware performance it says I have onyl 63MB Ram!!!
And when I tried to play a demo that required 64 it said I didnt have enough memory. I hope you dont need much for Age of Empires

Well, there is always arguably the best FPS ever made. DOOM. The original version wasn\'t online, but you could dial up to a friends house and frag him till he cried. Thankfully, ID released the source code to Doom/DoomII and fans have been able to create updates and patches, which add features like: True transperancies, High Res, Blood splatters, rocket trails, a Console ala Quake, Jumping/vertical aiming, and of course... true online play. Speaking of which, there are still a few groups of Quakers and Quake IIers out there who still play regularly.

Master of Orion II is an excellent space strategy game, and online through the WoN network I believe. Dunno if you can still connect with it. I reccomend downloading/buying both of the above games, even if you can\'t get em to work online simply because they are classics in their genres and shouldn\'t be missed.

Actually, I\'ve noticed that too. After his crying thread, he\'s changed his attitude to get more attention. *cough* Won\'t work anymore.
