I really enjoyed it. I\'ve always appreciated Ewan McGregor, and finally seeing Nicole Kidman in a sympathetic role again was very good. The Director of Photography (Donald McAlpine) produced a number of shots that are unlike anything you\'ve ever seen before. I guess you could say that the Director himself (Baz Luhrmann) was responsible for many of those, because they were largely visual effects shots, and the DP probably never came near them. Basically, the whole visual style felt totally new and unique. I also really liked Romeo+Juliet, Luhrmann\'s previous film.
I\'ve heard others complain that the use of modern pop songs in a movie supposedly set around 1900 was idiotic. Most of these people haven\'t even seen the film. If they had, they would have realized that the song selection works in this weird surreal universe the story is set in. BTW, Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman actually perform those songs right? It\'s actually them singing I believe. Overall, this picture is amazing, and I\'m looking forward to buying it on DVD. There\'s so much to see, it will be fun to do some freeze frames and slow motion on the DVD.
