Burnout Review + New screens
« on: October 19, 2001, 10:57:27 PM »
It seems this game is out already in the UK, has anyone gotten it yet? Care to give your impressions? Anyway I found a review for the game at gamesradar.co.uk, formerly dailyradar.co.uk.

http://www.gamesradar.com/reviews/game_review_471.html

The review is actually taken from PSM2, and its an 88% or a Direct Hit, whatever you want to call it.

Here\'s some interesting quotes regarding the gameplay mechanics:

Quote

And so begins the delicious pain of Burnout - that is the
balancing of the burnout versus the danger involved. The meter can only be triggered when maxed out, and it\'s only, slowly, filled when you either pull off a well-held drift, narrowly avoid another vehicle or race into oncoming traffic. The result is that - despite being faced with the most dangerous and nerve-shredding environment of any racing game, ever- you\'ll actually choose to take even more risks.
[/b]

Sounds brilliant. Apparently when you race into oncomming traffic your burnout meter (turbo boost) increases dramatically so that you keep going faster and faster against more and more traffic until you eventually turn your car into a flying, twisting piece of scrapmetal. They also mention that the game is insaneley fast, moreso than any other racing game.

Anyway I am really begining to like this developer, with projects like Airblade, and Burnout Criterion is definitley showing some talent.

Here\'s a few screenshots for all you graphic whores:

Do you think Criteron have got rid of the shimmering and jaggies? The video\'s I\'ve seen all have them. But those screens look like they\'ve sorted it out, or maybe its because the screens are small
