Silent Hill 2. My review says why.

I decided to dig up that review and gave it a look. I think you were a tad bit too harsh man. :) Anyhow, I can\'t say what my all-time most disappointing game is, but I can name a few recent ones.

Metal Gear Solid 2 - yup, it\'s true.
Luigi\'s Mansion
Waverace: Bluestorm
Sonic Adventure 2
Phantasy Star Online

Now, it all depends on what criteria these decisions are based on. Disappointment, as in the game wound up sucking? Or disappointing in the fact that the game wasn\'t what you expected?

I like both MGS2 + LM, they just weren\'t what I expected, and somewhat of a letdown. They are far from being bad games though.

Waverace is nothing like it should have been, a weak showcase for the GC. SA2 left me in utter disappointment with the lack of Sonic, and repetitive gameplay. And PSO, well. I won\'t get into that one.

(btw - I\'m sure I can think of tons more, I\'m just drawing a blank @ this moment.)

FF VI

There are plenty people who have played thru most of the series and consider it the best so I was totally primed after having thoroughly enjoyed VII. Big let down.  Finished VI but just barely. The load times on the PS version murdered the pace and pushing myself to get it over with destroyed my willingness to look at how to play the game the way it was meant to be played, using the wide variety of characters, spells, items etc. to add the spice that makes the series in general such a treat. For me the story in any RPG is just not a huge motivation for playing and this one was no exception.

Not that it was a bad game. Take away the long loads and essentially what it comes down to my own poor attitude wrecking what potentially could have been a great experience. Must point out I think it happens frequently, though it seldom gets recognized. We wrap ourselves so severely in our own disappointment that we overlook the good.

Heretic,

That\'s what happens when you try to go back in time. No person that started w/VII, is going to go back to a 16bit game and appreciate its true beauty. Not to mention you played the PSX remake. The loading times alone kill the flow of the game.

Technology moves on and leaves the outdated behind. Those that missed the first FF\'s, aren\'t going to enjoy them like they would had back in the day. Think about it.

Don\'t gang up on me, but I have never played ANY FF game. If I get FFX, will I Have any idea what the hell is going on? There are certainly a lot of FF fans, and the screenshots look great. I\'d like to try it out. Is the back story imperative to know?

Nope. Each Final Fantasy game has little if any link to the previous installment. For example, while FF9 was set in a medival setting, FF8 was in a futuristic setting. Different worlds, different stories. Now, the only thing each Final Fantasy does share are the basic battle system (which each FF game has a slight variation on it), plus each game has a chareceter with the name Sid and a Chocobo is somewhere in the game. Everything else, pretty much different.

So what type of game is it? I sorta deduce that it\'s a RPG. Is it like a story? are there different paths to take?

Its an RPG. In RPG games, you have a charecter/s that you build up their skills (magic, etc.) in order for that charecter/s to beat even tougher monsters. The FF game is turn based during the battle. The story is relatively linear. Now, each game has a side quest or two (in FF8 at least, other then the main story, you can have your charecter try to get all the cards you can by playing a card game [and winning that card in question]) but for the most part, follows one story.

Seeing that I like action/adventure games the most, maybe I\'ll rent it and see if I can get into it. The turn-based thing sounds kinda zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz............

Thanx fer yer help, cheers!

For me the worst PS2 games I have played so far are Summoner, The Bouncer and DOA2.

datamage,

Yeah, I was afraid from the beginning the game being so dated might be a problem but thought I could get past it. After seeing the opening and a few random battles I new there was going to be trouble. The thing is though I didn\'t realize how much I had been selling the game short until I was 9/10ths the way into it, all the while sticking with the same basic attacks and a minimum cast of characters, my idea being to get the battles over with ASAP. Really the only thing stopping me from giving it another go and playing it right is those brutal load times. Square should have never released the PSX version the way it is, better off leaving it as a legend.

part of my reasoning is that I had much higher expectations of Naughty Dog in the game department. I really believed they\'d make somethign innovative and new

I honestly like Crash 2 and Crash 3 better then J+D,

I don\'t hate the game mind you, but I\'m not looking forward to any sequel either
I have to agree with you.... I\'m only 50% through the game... But I actually got bored with it... And forgot about it really... Started playing MGS2 more....

I have so little time now-a-days to play games.... Plus with all this homework I got this christmas vacation I will have little time to do anything.....

Oh well..:(
.... take the skin and peel and back...

now doesn\'t it make you feel better?

I am surprised I havent seen it yet but for all the hype that came with it...

Devil May Cry

I loved the demo, the graphics rocked and the gameplay was fast and crazy but when I played through the game I just found it to be
(A) way too repetitive.  How many times did you have to be nightmare?? 4??
(B) the story sucked
(C) that action that was so unique and cool in the beginning got tired on the fingers and the eyes when you had to reset the levels over and over again (or maybe i just sucked, hehe)

anyone else?
