i\'m sorry guys, but as far as i can say, Xbox is going to own. this is just my opinion, but look at the games already out for Xbox.. they match, if not beat, playstation 2 games, after playstation 2 games have been out for over a year! you can\'t tell me they don\'t. go to your local gaming store, check out some of the games for PS2 and some of the games for Xbox.. now seriously, who has the better graphics? yes, you might say that graphics aren\'t everthing, but it\'s a material world people. graphics will matter sooner or later, and that\'s what Xbox is providing. for a long time i saved up my money to buy a PS2, until one visit to the funxbox.com forums and i had totally changed my mind.

Halo is going to be FPS of the year, definetely. RPG\'s might not be so great for the Xbox already, but in a year or two, who knows? yes, they all say they have the lineup of games for the next year, but you know Microsoft... anything could happen. i was looking at Kessen for PS2, and yes its videos are quite amazing, but look at the game itself. and Kessen 2... it\'s not any better then Kessen 1.

ohh the joys of Final Fantasy.. yes.. i would love to have FFX.. but i\'m not going to buy PS2 for it. no way. 350 bucks isn\'t worth it (the system and the game).

truth be told... Xbox is all about the graphics, the speed, and the power.

i\'m sure i\'ll get a lot of "BUT PS2 ROCKS AND IT\'S ALL ABOUT THE GAMING BABY!" kind of replies.. but in the future, it will be about the graphics and speed. face it.

if you\'re going to reply to this, please reply in a calm, mature way, stating facts or opinions, but not cursing at me for being an Xbox fan.

well i guess ill go first on this one

dont worry i wont hurt you :)

anyway you mention xbox has great graphics and that it does - as is expected with another year of technology to make it and all - but when you say graphics are all a game is about then well dude you are so wrong - so you mean say xboxs worst games that no one can stand to play would be better then say a great game from the past. Graphics are great indeed but when you have a pretty graphics and nothing else then you arent motivated to play the games - you will also find that as you go on games will get better but you will start to get use to the graphics - it happened last generation imo and it will happen again

the gap between PS2 and Xbox isnt quite as big as i can see so far - so far xbox is using a lot more of its power then PS2 since for one its easier to develop for - which is great but i want to see game maxed out on each system before i say anything about what can do what - but games maxing it out imo will never happen

anyway you can think that xbox is great and graphics are great and ill just sit back and watch you have mindless fun doing the samething in games like Abe while i sit back and enjoy final fantasy 10 and heck i would enjoy my snes games more then that game and those graphics are quite outdated

sure it may be nice to look at the graphics but i aint spending 300 bucks for a cinematic movie player - i want ti spend 300 bucks to play awesome games and you dont get awesome games unless you have awesome story and gameplay and stuff like that

graphics are only a piece of the pie my friend - if you only eat that piece you are missing out on a lot of great stuff

there that didnt hurt did it ;)

well you made some great points. PS2 does have the storylines, and the gameplay.. but i\'m still sticking to Xbox. i believe that in a few months, after Xbox has started making a stand for itself, the games will get much better. the only problem with Xbox is that it is more of an action system. as we progress though, i believe Xbox will start developing games like Final Fantasy, with graphics and gameplay. i\'m a neutral gamer mostly, i really loved GTA3 and the entire FF series, but i think if Xbox used it full power, they could really produce great RPG\'s and Action games alike. i dunno.. just my opinion.

Are you kiddiing?  I\'m ready to blow up!!!    I have PS2 with 24 games and Xbox with 4 games and my opinion, Xbox can\'t touch PS2 games like AC4, GT3, DMC, J&D, GTA3,  MGS2 in graphics. I know that the Xbox will have MGX and GTA3 and  I know the Xbox can handle those games but its not on the Xbox.  I think Xbox and GameCube is in the next level in graphics,  but lets just wait and see when more games come out.  :D

"yes, you might say that graphics aren\'t everthing, but it\'s a material world people. graphics will matter sooner or later, and that\'s what Xbox is providing." - The_Hobbit

Obviously you haven\'t been following the industry or else you\'d know that while raw graphical horsepower does indeed help.. it\'s never been the deciding factor in a console war. The Xbox could be twice as powerful as it is now, and I\'d still say Sony has a very good chance of beating them this generation. I won\'t bother repeating my list, but just take one single moment and look back over the past 15 years of gaming and name ONE platform that won market dominance because of graphics. (SNES may or may not have won ~ different people, different perspecitives.. but the fact that it was ever this close to begin with considering the NES\'s userbase should be testiment enough)

After playing the demos available to me, I can honestly say that I don\'t think the Xbox looks all that much better than the PS2. The difference is VERY marginal at this point. However, I think the lil black box is going to do better this generation than most people expect. What I AM impressed with, is Microsoft\'s Marketing and the way they present their console to a western audience. This, I think, will sway quite a few minds to buy the box and the growing lineup of good games will keep them there. I can\'t believe I\'m actually saying this but... good job MS. (The Mp3 rip feature is an extra nicety. I hope Sony puts as much thought into the consumer end use of their HDD) IMO, that makes up for the loss of "out of the box" DVD movie viewing. I still wish the HDD was removable tho.

How well they market to overseas markets is still yet to be seen....

Hobbit I think you make some good points, but the PS2 is still a very good console and right now it\'s undeniably the #1 console on the market. It has a few great games and a number of good games, so it will be fine this generation. As much as I like Xbox and want it to do well for increased dev support, don\'t count on it stealing any of PS2\'s thunder for quite sometime. After reading the reviews for Max Payne on both systems though I do believe that over time Xbox will begin to establish itself apart from the PS2, but that is not happening just right now. With the purchase of a PS2 or Xbox or both, a gamer just can\'t go wrong.

PS2 - more games, better games, better controller.

SSX playes better on PS2, why? Well, I would say the controller is a big factor. But I guess EA Big ~could~ have made the executions easier on PS2 than on Xbox. Who knows? I brought in my PS2 and a few games (SSX Tricky included) to my friends house who owns Xbox and SSX Tricky. He played the PS2 version and he was amazed how much better the game played on PS2.

But that\'s just one game.

And opinions vary.

Oh yeah, Xbox\'s SSX Tricky looks better than PS2....but not by much.

That is what\'s going to be great about the competition between MS and Sony this generation especially betwwen games that go cross platform. This in turn is going to generate a lot of revenue for the devs either way. Some versions will have larger levels, minimal load times so as not to distract, better graphics and effects and better controlability, so it will be a toss up as to which one to buy. It\'s going to be great for us gamers.

yes, you made some very valid points about the xbox

BUT, the "winner" of the console race will be ruled by numbers.  the xbox cant hope to match the installed user base of the PS2

i know ill add one to the number of xbox\'s sold as soon as i can get one used.  300$ is alot to pay for a few A+ games that i wont be ported to the PS2

Realistically speaking mm, you\'re probably right but it\'s not completely impossible that Xbox won\'t win this race. We all can\'t say with 100% certainty who will win just yet b/c no one knows what the future holds.

I agree xbox is a sweet system and imo the future is going to be sony and M$ fighting it out.  But do not count out ps2 like I said its all about da games why do you think this christmas season ps2 is the number 1 selling system?  Da games!!!!!!!!!!  The graphics on ps2 are good enough easily comparable to xbox.  So there both great systems to me.

I think we all can agree there were several unique variables involved in the N64/PSX console race that are not present in this new generation. This generation has it\'s own set of conditions present that won\'t follow the past results for the same reasons. In other words, N64/PSX was then and this generation might be different with a different outcome. We will have to wait and see.

When people ask me what system to buy I say PS2 for games now and X-box for the future. WHY? Nobody can deny the impressive line of games for the PS2 now however online plans are still unclear and there is question on where we go from here with future games. Has the PS2 reached its potential? Perhaps not. Will there be a GT4 or MSG3? The lack of new projects annouced or unannounced worries me. For the X-Box it seems the sky is the limit with a weath of developers climbing onboard and the world wide exposure emminent things seem to be on track for a stellar run for success. It does not seem to me that MS can catch Sonys sales  but that is a wait and see. The PS2 would have to fall flat on its face to lose this one. I personally would like to see both do well and keep us entertained for years to come. Just one more thing "PC still rules!" LOL. Sorry had to throw that one in for my PC brothers we are still alive. Heres why.....Jedi knight 2, Planetside, MOH Allied Assault, CC Renegade, Mafia, Halo(fingers crossed) Solder of fortune 2, Bridge Commander(Star Trek) Unreal 2, Deus Ex 2 and many more. Gaming is better than ever!
