Project Gotham Racing.....best looking racer ever?!?!?
« on: January 06, 2002, 10:24:48 PM »
After playing this game for serveral hours I must say this is another one of my fav xbox games to date.  The game is awesome and the kudos system is sooooooo addictive as well.(this game is just fun!!!!)  The main thing the graphics in this game are downright gorgous!!!  The backgrounds and textures in this game are massive as well.    I mean personally I did not think gt3 would get beat in racing graphics for a long time, proabably not  til gt4.  After playing pgr I must say the graphics may very well edge gt3 out by an inch.  I mean the car models are beauitful, there very detail, and the relfection in this game is unmatched  even topping gt3\'s relfections.  For those people out there that played both gt3 and project gotham racing which one looks better to you?  Me?  Well..........I think its a close fight I may have to give it to pgr.  I\'m considering another thing pgr was done in alittle less than a year, while gt3 was in developement for like 2 or 3 years.  :thepimp: :thepimp: :thepimp:

I just bought Project Gotham Racing and this game is one hard challenge.  There is only about 30 or so cars to open but its real hard to do.   I have about 27,000 kudos. I can\'t believe you have to make a min amount of kudos and get at lest bronze to get pass some of the levels.  But in GT3 the endurance levels are the hardest to do to.  But this game looks very heavy in textures.  The night time levels with the head lites on is like real.   I\'m tring to open up the Ferrari F355 spider.   The Ferrari F50 is one sweet car but you need 200,000 kudos to open it.   Oh I got the Porsche Boxer open.  Got to open the Porsche GT2!!!  :D

Lets see what the media has to say about this:

Gamespot
Project Gotham Racing:
Overall -- 8.1
Graphics -- 8

GT3:
Overall -- 9.4
Graphics -- 10

Gaming Age
PGR:
Overall -- C+

GT3:
Overall -- A-

Just listing the bad that Gaming Age said about PGR\'s graphics: (go ahead and read the review for the good)
Quote
The courses and environments look great as a whole, but there are some issues with low quality textures and "flat" lighting.

Overall, the Gotham still does not come close to touching the detail and near graphical perfection found in Gran Turismo 3.

Xbox.ign.com/PS2.ign.com
PGR:
Overall -- 8.8
Graphics -- 8
Quote
While environments are detailed, they\'re also flat, both in lighting and architecture.

GT3:
Overall -- 9.8
Graphics -- 9.8

WINNER: GT3

Ok, I\'m going to sleep.

I haven\'t playe PGR long enough to get a true impression of the graphics when compaired to GT3. It does look great though. I just don\'t understand your raving about the Kudos points system. I have MSR and I find it annoying that you can advance though the game without even having to WIN races. What kind of Racing is that?

...not really no...............

please explain why you would bring up a console that is completely unrelated to the discussion...and why you find that to be particularly amusing....?  maybe i just dont have a sense of humour....maybe you are just the King of Comedy....but i dont get it....do YOU

but the thing is...chances are...their opinion is a little less bias than yours of Alpha Prime of Humour...

p.s. i assumed that by strange you meant kinda...funny...odd...querky...which is how i figured out you were such a riotous person... cos you said it as a semi-serious joke...

god im tired  :)

Well--those scores from GT3 are from a while ago when graphical expectations were not as high as they are now.  Also, graphics for the xbox are weighed against the potential of the machine not against the PS2.  There are many PS2 ports that look better than the PS2 version but score lower in graphics, so I don\'t think you can bring that in as evidence.

About the question, I\'m not sure either game looks better than the other.  It is far too close to have a clear winner.  In some areas PGR looks better and in others it is lacking.  It\'s all the same if you ask me.

C-?  That score is far too low for this game.

Another point: you do have to win races, but calling PGR a racing game isn\'t fair either.  In some respects it\'s racing, but there is a lot more to the game than that.

rastalant,

You must not of heard, GT2000 was scrapped and replaced by GT3 using a new engine. 16 months was the reported time to develop GT3.

The idea a graphical comparison of the two games is even arguable now that they\'ve both been released is pretty funny to me. Anyone else besides me remember xbox fans last year posting screens of PG that proved it was going to kick GT3s ass? The gloating about how with so many months left in development PG was going to look so much better by the time it was released? It sure didn\'t turn out that way.

This game rocks.  If I was into racing games, I might buy an XBox just because of this title.  It\'s definitely one of the best looking racers on any platform right now.  It\'s unfortunate that they couldn\'t offer as much content as GT3, but it\'s a great game nonetheless.

This is the best racer I\'ve played. And for those weighing it so heavily against MSR...I have both, and PGR is alot more player friendly.

The graphics are amazing,  but the game is damn hard.  I just now got the Mazda RX-8 ( i think that\'s it).  I have nearly 30,000 kudos.

Hopefully I can be done with this by the time Sega GT 2002 comes out in March...

Ok, then lets throw out the scores and only look at the comments that they made: (I\'ll also be responding directly to Rastalant\'s post while showing these quotes)

I know it\'s their opinion.  You said "For those people out there that played both gt3 and project gotham racing which one looks better to you?"  Because I haven\'t played enough PGR to be taken seriously (and because I\'m too big of a Sony fanboy to be taken seriously), I decided to see what the reviewers had to say about this.  They have played both, so they fit into your category of "For those who have played both."  I was only responding to your question.

Ginko:
This is kind of off topic from what I was saying above, but I thought this was kind of funny.  You said, "I have both, and PGR is alot more player friendly."  Then in the next sentence you said, "The graphics are amazing, but the game is damn hard."

lol.  So what is it?  Player friendly or dang hard?

Sorry but i don\'t know what you guys thinkl the graphics in GT3 are sooo good, they were a big disapointment for me.
Don\'t get me started on the jaggies, at times you can\'t tell which way you had to turn because of them, oh and i remember sony saying that they had got rid of them in GT3 by adding more horizontal lines, or some crap like that.
If you really think about GT3 all they did was in each diferent catagory put about 15 more races in each one, like the Type-R cup, which you had to win each different one, to get a new car, and that was it, wow how fun!
And then you had those stupid 80 lap or more races, what is the point in that?
I had high hopes for GT3 but it let me down big time, i even got the steering wheel hoping it would get better, but after a couple of days the game was put back on the shelf and collecting dust.
And you say that gt2000 was scrapped, dont be a fool, it would have been the same game, but they made the graphics engine better, so that to me addes more time to the development, which was what 2-3 years, that is a stupid amount of time.

Hides behind a rock when he see\'s the GT3 fans!:D
On the 15 of March 2002, i was going to leave these forums for good.
But on the 16 of March i realised i couldn\'t ever say bye to you guys, so i am staying here for good!

jaggies were hardly noticible in GT3...the only reason the corners were sometimes hard were because the colors werent sharp enough and the track sometimes blended into the barrier if the view was from in the car...low angle

i cant believe Fisty went to all the trouble of finding those quotes.....freak  :p
