RGB Lead thingy

well i heard that if i get a true RGB lead it will improve my picture quality im currently using the scart that came with the ps2 but if it does improve it how much will i notice it

It will vastly improve your picture.

Technically, the \'SCART\' lead you got with your PS2 is not a SCART lead at all - the picture you\'re getting is through the composite leads that connect into the SCART adapter.  That adapter is given as nearly all TV\'s have a SCART input rather than a composite one.

The poorest picture is from RF - really crap quality and mono sound.

Next is composite, which is slightly better, and also gives stereo sound

SCART is vastly superior - colours are vibrant and rich, no colour bleeding and you end up with a very sharp picture.

And although i haven\'t seen it, Component is the daddy, and I think you can get this through the GC and XBox, but you need a posh TV for it.

So get yourself a true RGB SCART lead tomorrow!!!

wow!  That\'s a good site, fastson.  I look at that sight and just as i thought RGB is better than YUV.  Marquis De Sade is wrong about YUV (also known as Y Pb Pr in america) is better than RGB.  RGB (known as scart cable in europe) send true RED, Green, and Blue signals.  While YUV sends true Red, and Blue signal.  The Green color is being shared with brightness.  I heard green eats a lot of bandwidth so RCA make it share with brightness (luminance), a cheaper way to send near RGB signals and to reduce bandwidth.  (not sure though).  A quote from that site:

Look very closely at the images above and you should be able to tell the difference. The YUV component image is shown here with half the color resolution of the original image, as it is the case with many sources that typically output YUV component (such as DVD Video). The RGB component image is identical to the original and has full color resolution.

Like Scart cable, VGA cable also send true RGB signals and these color also sync too.  VGA is as good as scart cable.  If not, much better.  So, people, don\'t always think that YUV is equal RGB or better because its actually not.

also, for Marquis De Sade,

ps2 does support a YUV cable (sold seperately).  It known as Y Pb Pr in America and I do see them i store.  I think what you meant is the ps2 doesn\'t support progressive scan when connect the Y Pb Pr cable to ps2.  XBOX and gaycube does support progressive scan (which is better) but ps2 only support interlaced.  Matter of fact, all three consoles support Y Pb Pr.

In a rush for an exam so if they has been answered already then so be it.

RGB is the best cable you can get but it plays DVD in greenscreen unless you do a modification or DVD Region X.

Ah yes, I stand corrected.

Here in the UK, the best choice is SCART, presuming D3AD_RAGE is from over here, or indeed, Europe.

scart make the picture so much better, wait to you get one you really will see the difference!!!

If I get a "proper" scart lead, will the PS2 send a signal to the TV to tell it to switch to widescreen whenever I play a widescreen game or DVD (like my DVD player and satalite box do)?

Does that make any sense to anyone or am I babbling again?

Sadly, no - usually I play my PS2 games in \'super zoom\' mode on my widescreen TV, but with GTA3, i play that in widescreen.  

However, if i had previously been playing a \'normal\' game before, and turn the PS2 on to play GTA3, then I\'ll have to switch through to widescreen using the remote.

Hope that makes sense to you as I almost lost myself there..
