The Simpsons, greatest show on Earth?
« Reply #15 on: January 15, 2002, 05:17:47 PM »
Some of my favorite Homer quotes are, and not limited to:

"My favorite color is chocolate"

"If we ever have another child, we will name it Baby, that way it will save me a lot of trouble"

Snake threatens to pistol whip Homer
"AHHH! Pistol whip!"
Thinking bubble go over Homer\'s head showing Homer eating a giant bowl of Cool Whip with a hand gun
"Mmmmmm pistol whip"

Home finds a corpse at the bottom of a ravine
"Well that explains why I scream a lot and my fear of corpses"

"If I had a dollar for every time I heard "My God!  He\'s covered in some type of goo," I\'d be a rich man"

"There are many different religions in this world, but if you look at them carefully, you\'ll see that they all have one thing in common:  They were invented by a giant, superintelligent slug named Dennis. "

Simpsons wins by being a cartoon and having more mass market appeal..

Seinfeld is a show that had to work its way to the top by being nothing but purely funny, and has more memorable moments and more than likely more famous quotes..

i still like the fact that in its third season (just as it was starting to get good) Seinfeld got a lucritive timesspot following Cheers, and in only a few weeks was outrating cheers..

The Simpsons started as a kids show and for the first 4 seasons or so...sucked my ass, and thats where its installed base came from.. but being a cartoon it gained more recognition through M-A-R-K-E-T-I-N-G

Seinfeld is far more original, far more innovative, and had far better ratings than Simpsons does, did or ever will..

im not saying im not a fan of the simpsons, im willing to bet i could out-quote any of you...its just an inferior show to the might that is Seinfeld

My Fav. Shows are
Seinfeld
Father Ted (great Irish comedy)
Whose Line is it Anyway (British version, Ryan and Coling rock my socks goldyblocks)
Faulty Towers
The Simpsons

p.s. Homer is easily the funniest Simpsons character, the only reason people such as Lenny and Ralph and Cheif Wiggum are so funny  (Lenny is my second fav. character) is because they play the cameo roll...they come in for one line, say it, make everyone laugh then leave...you\'ll find that if they are there for much more, then they arent funny)

I must say I agree with big Bob here..

Seinfeld is easily more funny.. Every episode is funny.. (That ive seen anyways)

I like the humor better in there.. :)
Simpsons is though my 2nd fav show..

oh BTW has anyone noticed that when the series started the shows revolved around Bart, but as the series began to mature, Homer became the main character?  Which is understandable because as we all know Homer is one of the most acomplished men of our time, he has a grammy, he\'s been in outter space, was a monorail conducter and saved numerous lives, has stopped nuclear meltdowns, has his face in the dictionary, was a mascot for a major league team, beaten up George Bush Sr., made a movie with Mel Gibson and many other numerous acomplishments, he\'s my hero!

thats true, you see, as Bob pointed out, the show was originally aimed at children and adolescents, but as the show began to change its demographic changed and Homer started to develope into the character he is today...and naturally became popular

While I really don\'t watch Seinfeld that much at a all but I will tip my hat to them for being very well written, but for the most influential tv show for generation X, I say that the Simpsons has it hands down.  When people look back at our generation I see the Simpsons getting the nod as to what show represents Gen-X.

BTW what is the name of the new generation?  I\'ve heard it called generation Y, has anybody else heard this?

Well, I guess it\'s just me... but I have never been too fond of Seinfeld. It just isn\'t all that IMO.

Here are some funny shows IMO:

The Simpsons
Spin City
Drew Carey Show

I\'d think of more but I\'m tired right now. :)
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAPETIME!

The original Whose Line... is better but the Carey version is still funny, depsite Carey being annoying, constantly mentioning "The points don\'t matter".

ENOUGH!!!

Colin & Ryan = Funniest. Duo. Ever.
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.
