I actually didn\'t really like Lord of the Rings.  Not only was it not the best movie I saw last year, it wasn\'t the best movie I saw within the week I saw it (I also saw Ali that week, and liked it much better).  I liked Beautiful Mind better myself.

The Fellowship of the Ring was a really good movie, but it was not a Best Picture.  I have very high standards for best pictures, and AMPAS has rarely met them in the last 20 years.  A Beautiful Mind comes closer to best picture status than LOTR, but only a little bit.  The reason why The Fellowship of the Ring was not a best picture is because it\'s only 1/3 of the story.  If Peter Jackson had released the entire LOTR in one 9 hour movie, that could have been a best picture, but The Fellowship of the Ring does not qualify by itself in my opinion.  Objectively, The Two Towers and Return of the King both contain more interesting portions of the story, so how could you proclaim The Fellowship of the Ring as the best picture?  You\'d have to give it to each film for three years running.

To be honest, The Royal Tenenbaums was much more a Best Picture than any of the others that were nominated.  :)

well i thought it should have got best movie but i wasent that dissapointed that it didnt.

I was REALLY dissapointed that peter jackson didnt get best directer!  What the f*** was up with that???!!!???!!!

No best costume award either???!!!???!!!
Now i know that Lord Of The Rings had more detail than in Mulin Rouge sp?  I was there!  I tell you every extra that was on the set, even when they wernt even on camera had the full detail right down to the last buckle, piercing and footwear!  No body can tell me that mulin rouge had better costumes!  Lord of the rings had to make them all from scratch for christ sake!

To those of you who didn\'t like the movie let me tell you this.  This movie was filmed at the same time as two others!  It was made in New Zealand!  We don\'t have **** compared to the states (in movie making).  Peter Jackson is a genious!  He got the story translated into movie perfectly (imo).  No other director could have done this this well!

gollum, peter jackson makes good campy horror films and thats it.  ever see heavenly creatures?  *shudder*

he had nothing to do with bring the book to movie, the screen writer did, and they did a piss poor [© ooseven 2002]  job anyways.

acting and costume wise, it was no better than the dungeons and dragons movie

Of the movies nominated I thought Lord of the Rings should have won and I was a bit disappointed that it lost. However, I was more disappointed that A.I. didn\'t even get nominated.

Heavenly creatures is one of my favourite movies.
Not neccesarly story wise but how it captured the mood/emotion perfectly of both of the main characthers.  It was just a very well done movie!

Anyway GO NEW ZEALAND

NEW ZEALAND ROCKS!

GO THE ALL BLACKS

EDIT:  Sorry what i said earlier was wrong.  I wasn\'t an extra in all of the battle scenes in the three movies because i only took part on the sets in the north island.  I\'m pretty sure that they filmed battles etc. in wanaka and makensie country (south island).  The battles in the north island were infront of mount doom (mt Ruapehu in real life) the battles in the south island were batle with the walking trees and oh i dont think i should be telling you this.

anyway it was sweet cool fun!  good money and good gourmet lunch!
