It may not look better but hopefully it will run better.  GTA3 played like **** on the PS2.  My friends freezes after 10 min. if you don\'t turn trails off.  The ground starts looking see through and then it dies.

you really think that\'s supposed to happen? heh, it\'s probably the laser which needs a tuneup, or perhaps the laser or the
game disc is ****ed. either way none of those things you described happens to me except some slowdown now
and then of course. The slowdown I can live with though :)

I heard GTA4 will use the newest RenderWare platform.
An updated graphics engine from BurNout (which ran at 60fps)..

GTA3 had one of the most poorly developed engines ever.

Hey mm, why, if you\'re so keen on xbox\'s alleged graphical faults, do you not bring up this gem of modern graphics in every second thread?

eh??  mm has constantly brought up that GTA3\'s running at 30fps is poor.. at least i could swear ive sen him say it at least once..

which is why he always wanted it on PC (hence the name of this thread) so it doesnt hurt his fragile eyes

My point is that he brings up blur (which I really don\'t see) and 30 fps constantly concerning the xbox, but never brings up any PS2 titles--like GTA3, one of the worst engines in recent memory.

I mean that game has horrendous popup, slow down, ugly ugly textures, low res, low poly, fogging--you name it, it\'s in this engine.

I for one have never heard him comment negatively on this game, only positively.

I think MM\'s TV needs some sharpening ajustment :)  J/K

As good as those screens look, I still think the textures could be better. Detailed but flat.

I don\'t think running the game at 1600x1200x32x4 will help much with poor textures.
You think positive, I\'ll think realistic.

GTA3 = teh suk!!1!!

I\'m paraphrasing myself here:

____________
Knocking off pedestrians is fun but the AI is so utterly pathetic that it makes them a waste of processing power. There is no challenge to taking out a bystander--absolutely none. While beating one of these people to death the rest of the populus walk on by as if nothing is happening. Why do they even have them in the game? They don\'t make a realistic effort to get out of the way--the move slowly and predictably so you can kill them easily. Clearly they were put in the game for this very reason and it is an utter waste. Remove them from the streets and maybe one or two of the major problems to the graphics engine could be improved.

Between the cars that are essentially the same and those that you want to drive in the first place there really aren\'t that many to chose from.

The game is easy.

Way too many missions are terrible (phone booth hopping to kill this guy, to help me escape to sniping these guys)--very rarely is this fun or again tough.

The whole police/star system is completely unbalanced. 1 star anyone can outrun the cops--no problem. 2 stars it\'s a little tricky, but doable. After that is nearly impossible (it can be done at 3 though) without the use of the paint and spray. The police AI is pathetic--they drive terribly--often crashing all by themselves, put up road blocks that don\'t stop anything, etc.

One of the worst engines I\'ve ever seen. Road blocks/buildings etc appear 10 feet in front of you, terrible fogging, slowdown, clipping--you name it, it\'s in this engine.

It is not a "living" city as the game boasts. Commit a crime and police do not chase you down, they appear on the next block. Same goes for rival gang members, etc. Trying to outrun the cops, as if by magic a road block is formed. This is lazy programming and takes you right out of the experience.

Far too easy to steal cars--because of this the experience isn\'t fun or rewarding for very long. The damage model of the game is completely unrealistic--the cars get wrecked far too quickly. Blowing up cars happens too often and too easily--after a while this no longer excites. If they made it tougher to blow up cars it would happen less frequently and prolong the thrill of the game. it doesn\'t, it happens every 5 minutes and thus becomes boring. This last bit applies to almost every aspect of the game, but everything cool about this games happens very quickly, often and with very little effort or skill.

You can have the FBI after you in the middle of a huge shoot out and the people and traffic are unaffected by this--again it is as if nothing is happening. Occasionally a panic will hit them, but it either doesn\'t last very long or doesn\'t happen at all.

What about a persistent world?--at least while within the same city. This is the "next" generation.  Go around the block and it\'s as if nothing had happened to what once was (15 seconds ago) a warzone.

And the AI--damn is it bad. Walk around the corner and kill them in piles. They just keep come and keep dying. This too is lazy programming.

Everything I want in a game isn\'t here: good AI, a long challenge, replayability, a good graphics engine, some depth of gameplay. This is a game that offers only violence. Violence for violence\'s sake. Rockstar wanted controversy because controversy sells and it popular.

This next analogy is key:

"If this game was set in the forest and you could blow away squirrels and chipmunks with an assortment of weapons only to have Smokey the Bear and Boy scouts chase after you--would this still be a popular game?" No probably not.

I got the game for christmas, did manage to finish all the missions, but I will never play this game ever again. I played it for about two weeks.
____________

You tell me what this game offers?  Violence and fantasy, that\'s it.  Like I said, AI as bad as it gets, graphics are as bad as they get, gameplay is nothing new and add to that it\'s repetitive, voice acting is terrible, etc.  This is the next level of gaming?  The next generation?  Instead of doing one thing really well, Rockstar did everything halfassed.

Everything I want in a game isn\'t here.  I want challenging AI, nice graphics, some depth and a little innovation. Thank God Santa bought it for me else I\'d be as disgruntled as mm is over his xbox.

So in summary, I don\'t care if the PC version is prettier and I don\'t care if it never comes out for the xbox.  It\'s a good idea ruined by poor execution--I\'ll wait for GTA4.

And what does it matter FPS or 3rd person perspective?  You are splitting hairs.

third is to conceal the absence of ideas.

you know that i think that GTA3 is an overrated, but i do disagree with you on some points  :)

im too lazy to debate it through though, so ill just say

the voice acting rocks

and ive never seen a road block appear from ten feet in front of me  :)

and a few other things i disagree with too.. but.. i got a headache  :(

and i wouldnt change your mind anyway  :p
