Forum secrets

(I was feeling bored, so sue me ;))

Gather around children. Uncle Sammy will tell you some forum secrets. Ok, so perhaps they\'re not exactly secrets. But you might learn a thing or two. :)

  • PM notification:

To get a pop up window informing you when you have a new Private Message (PM), goto USER CP -> EDIT OPTIONS -> Pop up a box when you receive a Private Message? [yes]

  • PM tracking:

When you go into your PM box there\'s a box called JUMP TO FOLDER -> MESSAGE TRACKING. You can use it to see if your PM\'s have been read by the recipient. However, this takes up extra space, and you can only have a certain amount of PM\'s at any time. So be sure to delete/end tracking when you\'re done. It\'s also a good idea to check all your folders when deleting PM\'s. You can also uncheck \'message tracking\' and \'keep a copy\' when sending PM\'s, thus saving space.

  • Search feature:

If you want to read an old thread but you don\'t want to read through pages of threads, use the search button. It\'s worth getting into if you like to read/find old threads and is able to remember one or more words from a certain thread/reply.

  • Count Replies feature:

When looking at a forum (say Off Topic) you\'ll notice that the number in the \'replies\' column (spelling?) is a link. Click it too see who has written the most replies in a certain thread.

  • Smilies List:

Click here to see a list of all available smilies and their code. This info can also be found in the FAQ (accessed by pressing the FAQ button in the top of the screen).

  • vB Codes:

The FAQ is also the place to find special vB codes, like the bullets I\'m using to write this mini-FAQ. Quick link here.

  • Rate Thread feature

This feature is found at the bottom of any thread. It can be used to give a visual rating of a thread, so other members can see what the community thinks of a certain thread. Please don\'t use this feature though, as it screws up my screen. ;)

  • Who\'s Online feature

This feature can be found in any thread at the bottom at the screen, in the FORUM JUMP box. It takes you to a screen where you can spy on other people. :) Basically it shows you what people are doing - reading a certain thread, writing PM\'s etc. Can be quite useful.

  • Top 20 Posters

This feature show\'s you who\'s the 20 most productive members on the forum (or the biggest spammers). It\'s accessed by pressing the MEMBERS button on the top of the screen -> TOP 20 POSTERS.

  • Ignore feature

In USER CP -> EDIT IGNORE LIST you can add people to ignore. Using this feature will make their posts invisible to you when reading threads. Use this feature with care.

  • Buddy List feature

This makes it possible to see when your buddies are online, as well as mass sending PM\'s to people on your list. Found in USER CP -> EDIT BUDDY LIST. You can add buddies by clicking the BUDDY button under people\'s names when reading replies.
[/list]

There are probably a ton of other tips and tricks, but I\'m done for today. Hopefully one or two of you peeps found it helpful. :)

I decided to rate this thread because I learned only one new thing -> about the replies button.  I just never bothered to click on it before.  :D

When I first saw this thread I thought for sure we were suppose to tell secrets about different people.

I was just coming in to give my sympathies to Racer becasue I figured he was being hammered.

Luckily it\'s something totally different.

I give this thread a rating of 2!!!

It is now my quest to rate all threads.  I forgot that was even there.
