The Xbox is an amazing console, yet for many reasons, a lot of people won\'t buy it. In Japan, it\'s pretty much being ignored. I don\'t know if it\'s that the Japanese are biased against American consoles, or that it\'s just that the Xbox doesn\'t have too many Japanese games. But whatever it is, it is really doing poorly in Japan.
Microsoft made the stupid mistake of pricing the Xbox too high in Europe. Even the Xbox fanboys at TXB were saying how stupid Microsoft was for doing this. I don\'t see how Microsoft could have made such a huge mistake, but its too late now. It is doing rather poorly there too.
In America it is doing very well though. It has a few gems, has a lot of advertisements, and has a lot of potential, and the American people are seeing this. I think Microsoft is doing great considering it\'s competing against two extremely well known video game companies. The question will Microsoft start doing well in Europe and Japan, and if not, will the Xbox be able to live off of the American market alone?
The sad thing about Nintendo is they where once number 1. They act as if they never where on top of the console industry. They don\'t even want to try and expand there content to go head to head with sony. It\'s just plain pathetic.
Why would they though? If they did expand there content, then they would be competing with Sony as well as Microsoft. But if they stay the same and
mostly cater to the younger audience and/or Nintendo lovers (in Eik\'s case
), then they will be making more than enough money to live off of. Just last year they made 1.1 billion dollars profit! (
link) Instead of going all out like Microsoft and losing $60 per console, they made a cheaper, yet still very powerful console that they actually could make a profit on with every sale. And they also have the GBA which is doing unbelievably well which probably makes up at least 3/4 of that 1.1 billion dollars. If anything, Nintendo is playing this "game" smarter than anyone else.
I\'m sure they could care less about their userbase as long as the billions of dollars keep rolling in.
And this next year is only going to get better for them. If they made that much money off of GBAs and the almost gameless NGCs, just imagine what will happen when the good games start coming.
