According to Reuters, anyway. Compare these articles..

http://reuters.com/news_article.jhtml?type=technologynews&StoryID=985839

Now the GameCube is beating the Xbox in every territory. Not that it matters.. the Xbox had the 300K lead in the US before and dropped it (as you can see, GCN is now 230K units ahead) so GCN isn\'t invincible..

Having all of that early consumer support over Xbox won\'t exactly hurt Nintendo\'s bid for second place though.

I shouldn\'t have to tell you that those numbers are BS.

NPD = an independent firm, not benefiting by reporting higher numbers.

Nintendo = affected by reported numbers

MS = affected by reported numbers.

If Nintendo was beating MS in total sales in the US, why don\'t the software charts (sales and rentals) imply so? Why don\'t NPD (an outside firm) have GC beating XBox? etc.

yes, the GC ones are coasters...for \'sippie\' cups.

HA HA HA!

I\'m on fire. That still doesn\'t explain why the majority of GC games never get on the top 10 rental or sales charts, nor are they hardly EVER ever above their XBox counterpart in sales.

Actually, Halo was in the 30\'s last week, and yesterday was 6th on the daily charts because of the XBox pricedrop.

but I am talking about US sales and rentals. Where GC is obviously last. I don\'t know why Nintendo would say something like that when no outside source supports their numbers.

AlteredBeast: I hate to sound like a jerk.. but it seems that now that the tables are turned, you\'re just making up excuses. NPD stopped publicly displaying numbers.. these are the first we\'ve gotten in weeks.

If they\'re real or not, they make sense.. and they\'re the only numbers available. gg!

These are just new reports, not official numbers of any sort, plus they show only Gamecube sales in NA. I\'m gonna have to agree with AlteredBeast on this one in that these reports don\'t give enough info to make judgement.

There is, however, more then enough information to show that the NGC is owning the xbox in japan.. of course the PSX is owning the xbox in japan.. but thats a differnt story

Nonamer: The point was that Xbox has fallen to 3rd-place status in America.

It was 2nd in sales behind PS2 since late 2001, now GameCube has edged ahead.

As for overall numbers, Europe is the only wild card.

Japan: GCN; 1.3+ million units sold. Xbox; 200~ thousand units sold.
America: GCN; 2.23 million units sold. Xbox; 2 million units sold.
Europe: GCN; 400~ thousand units sold. Xbox; Supposedly 300~ thousand units sold.. no definite number.

I\'m not bragging here, just stating the facts.

Yes!

Considering GameCube\'s comparatively lackluster first quarter (Sonic Adventure 2 vs Jet Set Radio Future, anyone?) the Xbox should have been crushing it. However, in the end of Q1.. the GCN picked up the pace.

More recently, in the second quarter.. Resident Evil drove thousands to run out and buy GCN consoles.
