Why wont you give up trying to be someones crusader? Something I just thought about, I saw a piece on George Burns a few years ago. He was asked he he had any tips on living so long. Guess what he said, smoking 3 cigars and 4 martini\'s a day? He made it to over 100 years old.

Because my smoking has never caused problems with my Athesma. In fact, in the 22 years I\'ve had this disease I\'ve actually grown mostly out of it. Attacks come much less frequently and with less severity than they had when I was younger. I.E. Also before I started smoking. The only time my lungs DO constrict is when strech them out consistantly.. like.. when you\'re breathing heavily while doing excersizes. And I don\'t think you understand what I said above either... my LIFESTYLE is one that completely contradicts physical fitness. I\'m not a fat slob, but I don\'t excersise regularly. Mostly I just do my job at work, and come home to sleep & play videogames. That\'s it. A simple life.. but it keeps me content.

There\'s a lot of air between Warsaw Indiana and Pinkerton, Ohio. Sure the internet connects us all and makes the world a smaller place.. but I really doubt my cigarette smoke is traveling that far and forming that cancerous lump in your lungs right now...

I\'m not trying to force you to see my point of view.. and I\'m not trying to say you should just STFU and suck it up.. act like a man. I\'m not saying you have to like my decision.. You need to respect my decision for what it is.. MY decision. I don\'t jump into non-smoker\'s cars and light up without first asking them if they mind. I don\'t blow my smoke in the resturant to the non-smoking section on purpose. I try to respect a non-smoker\'s decision and accomodate them. I wish that attitude was shared by non-smokers alike.. but hey.. if you feel you have to go on a personal crusade to make you feel better about your life, then I guess we can drag this out for a few more posts.

did you guys know, because my father smoked I have chronic asthma.  I have to take 2 inhalers, Albuterol and Serevent, twice daily, not to mention a pill called singular just so I can breathe.  At that, it prevents me from excelling in sports.  Asthma is a scary thing, smokers don\'t realize it, but I have to suffer a worse fate than them.  If you want your children to have asthma, go ahead and smoke.  I have to deal with CHRONIC asthma, and there is nothing I can do now.  That\'s ok, it\'s "their" choice.

Sucks to be you 1BG. Really tho, as someone with the same disease and having heard plenty from my doctors about it throughout the years.. smoking is only one out of a marid of different factors which can cause athesma. There are quite a few (roughly 40% last time I heard) athesmatics who live in non-smoking families and had not been exposed to large ammounts of cigarette smoke. Can you ~PROVE~ that it was your father\'s smoking which caused your condition?

BTW: I take singulair too. In fact, I was one of the first human recipients of the drug after it was approved by the FDA waaayy back in 1995. Of course, I only have one inhaler which I use on average of about MAYBE once or twice a week. Depends on if something good is on Comedy Central or not. Granted, my Athesma now is not on par with what you\'re dealing with.. but it was at one time.

Don\'t try to lay a pitty trip on me.. I know full well what it is to be a child laying in bed wondering why you can\'t just breath normally like other kids and wondering if you fall asleep, will you wake up in the morning or suffocate to death. I\'m not so arrogant and self-pittying to try and blame my father (who also smoked) when I have no idea weither or not he had anything to do with my contracting the disease.

Heheh.. nice try 1BG.. really informative site there. It lists that secondhand smoke can trigger athesma ATTACKS, but nowhere does it mention second-hand smoke triggering the disease. Then it goes off on a rant about how to quit smoking. I would hardly call those "tidbits". Here, try this site out for size.

Now THESE are tid-bits. If you\'ll notice, there\'s a lot of conflicting information between the above four links. My point in posting this is NOT to try to absolve cigarette smoking from being a cause of Athesma.. but to illustrate to you a sample of many - MANY - different causes of Athesma. Everything from Dust mites, household cleaners, chemical pollutants (found in the air), to even poor diets.

Before you lay your cards down, be sure you have a hand worth playing. Maybe you should just fold now...

Yeah, it\'s cool. I see where you\'re comming from too. It\'s just that people who try to tell me what I can and cannot do with my own body really drives me nuts if you couldn\'t tell.

Granted, I accept your opinion.  But may I ask one question, and only one.

Why do you smoke?

3 Reasons.

1. I enjoy it.

2. I\'m addicted.

3. I\'m addicted.

Does that answer your question? I\'d try to quit.. but I enjoy them too much at the present time. When I cease to enjoy them, then I\'ll look into methods to help me break my addicition.

I just wanna throw something in here, both of my parents smoke regularly, and i can run a 6 minute mile. 2nd hand smoke hasn\'t affected me in the 14 years I\'ve been living with it, but hey, i might be lucky.

i havent had one in several months, but before then i would have one a day.  why would i do this?  cause i enjoyed it.  there\'s nothing like a ciggarette after sex or a big meal.
