Xbox @ E3, did they show anything interesting??
« on: May 27, 2002, 02:19:42 AM »
Well
Maybe it is becasue i am PS2 owner, and reads mostly about games comming to that machine. I have been thinking of getting an xbox as well for my bedroom but.......is there anything in the pipe for that machine (that is not on ps2) ( i know about project ego)

There seems to be alot of fun comming to ps2, and they that machine just seem to have so much untaped power.

Tell me about xbox games, and xbox performance at E3. Did they reveal anything breathtaking ??

Thanx.

Xbox has plenty of games coming.. im sure altered can list a few Sega titles..

E3 for Xbox brought no real surprises that i saw.. i guess along with official XBox Live announcements and the few XBox games that are using it.. i guess.. could be.. kinda good (at least at TeamXbox they think it is (XBOX WON THE SHOW!!))

oh.. except Blinx, because its a Mario killah thats going to revolutionise platformers    :p

buh.. *wasted post*

..ill see how long this thread lasts :)

I can\'t remember the persons name who resigned from Microsoft just a few weeks ago (he opened a company to develop games?).  I think it is because he left that Microsoft was left with their finger up their a$$.

Everything was obviously on his shoulders and became too much for him.  I have also heard nothing much from Microsoft.  I honestly feel that this was one of the most boring E3\'s in quite some time:(  , and that goes for all consoles.

Yep, I don\'t think that things are looking up in the M$ camp.  I have to be honest and that is that I think the Xbox is very good graphically but it laks something that the PS2 has...I think it is fun games.  Why are the games more fun?  Because the Dual Shock 2 is easy to work with.

I have played on the Xbox before and find the buttons so close together, small and on top of that the controller itself is huge.  There are only 3 games on the Xbox that I would want and that is Munches Odessy, DOA3 and the new rally game, besides that there is nothing.

I do have a question however, why is there suddenly so many crap games coming out?  It feels so PC-ish.  Games like MGS2, RE, Silent Hill, GT3, GTA3, DMC, etc.  were all excellent games but it seems to have slowed down at a huge pace.  I know that we have games like DMC2, RE: online, MGS2: Substance, CMR3, VR3, ATV2, NFS:HP2 and  GTA:M coming our way, but they are all glorified sequels.

Look at it this way, if you already have MGS2, which most of us do, then why have another MGS2 with slight alterations.  The skateboarding to me means squat, why have MGS: skateboarding if I have a great game like THPS3?

Remember the good old days of Megaman (Rockman)?  Many sequels came out.  At least it said Megaman2, 3, 4, etc.  Not  MGS1, MGS2: Sons of Liberty, MGS2: Substance.  I see that even the Toca series is taking this new way of naming titles?!?!

Just look at the Final Fantasy series, it is now at the 11th sequel and still pulling in the money like never before.  Every sequel is in fact a total different story witha different cast.  Now that is what I call excellent sequels.

The problem at the end lies with us guys, yes, we are the stupid people who go to buy the sequels and still rave about the same thing that has little alterations to the previous title.

I am not saying that sequels are all bad, but put some thought into it before just constructing it.:)

I think I better not get involved in the Xbox thing, but just to answer your question:

Look out for these games on PS2 this year:
  • The Getaway
  • Rachet & Clank
  • Dropship (soon to be released in US)
  • Run Like Hell (not sure if this will turn out good though...)
  • SOCOM: US Navy Seals
  • Stuntman
  • Sly Cooper and the...*
  • Malice (hope this turns out to be a worthy port)
  • Primal

And about the sequels - their might be a lot of sequels heading our way, but shouldn\'t be bad, as most of them aren\'t that story driven like MGS. ;)

XBox had a great e3, and if you go to any multiconsole forum, they almost always agree, GC and XBox had great shows, while PS2 was left flaunting their arrogance. Gamecube won the show, btw, but XBox was no slouch.

There weren\'t too many surprises on XBox besides Ninja Gaiden and MGS: S. But MS and it\'s third parties showed off a great lineup for this year and beyond.

titles to look out for if you do indeed get an XBox:

Sega GT 2002
Morrowind
Blinx (made by ex-designer on NiGHTS and Sonic)
Psychonauts
MGS: S
Project Ego
Unreal Championship
Splinter Cell
Raven Shield
Counter-Strike
PSO
Halo Online
Project Gotham Online

and then pick up Halo, Project Gotham, RalliSport, GUNVALKYRIE, and JSRF while you are at it. All excellent titles.

Hey Altered, might aswell ask you since you were quite impressed with the XBox E3 lineup: why is the Xbox lineup so much better than what Sony showed?

How someone can say "while PS2 was left flaunting their arrogance" is beyond me, after seeing what they had in stock for us. ;)

I didn\'t say it was.

PS2 took it\'s pre-E3 conference and used it to show what a bunch of piles they really were. "The console war is over" "The gap between us and our competitors is like the Grand Canyon", etc.

Nintendo and MS used their time to demonstrate some great new games. There weren\'t any surprises for anyone, really, but MS and Nintendo did the best with their booths, from what I hear. The buzz over the internet has been about Metroid Prime and Panzer Dragoon Orta, not Ratchet and Clank or The Getaway (although there was some good discussions about Getaway).

Taking this sentence, you obviously mean that GC and XBox had great shows - well, while PS2 was apperantly left flaunting their arrogance. Tells me pretty clearly that you personally feel that both companies had the better show than Sony.

So, why do you feel that the Xbox showing was so much better?! Looking at the games you\'ve listed further up, I don\'t see what was so special about it really.

because you are a PS2 fan and owner, you will see what you want to see. I own both (soon to be all three) and from my perspective, with XBox Live details, Panzer Dragoon Orta (look at my sig), Shenmue II (ditto), Splinter Cell, Blinx, Psychonauts, etc.

If you aren\'t excited about these games, then you aren\'t actually looking at them. titles of games alone shouldn\'t have to interest you. Go download some videos of Psychonauts and Blinx and read up on them and tell me they don\'t sound like great concepts (built by great designers). I am a sucker for great Sega games, and XBox showed the best quantity of them.
