WOW!! FFXI Sales are the BOMB(ing)!!!!

WOW! mm, looking at the new Media Create numbers (they are generally the highest numbers across Japan) shows that you are indeed correct!! FFXI sold a STAGGERING 8,000 copies last week! WOWZAS!!!

Why, by my calculations, at this rate, it will only be 26 more weeks until this baby breaks 300,000 and you will have indeed become correct!! I might as well recant my quote right now!

So what\'s the total so far?

Is there something wrong with the game or is the add-on that is hendering sales?

Add on is hurting it as well as the game itself. It isn\'t the type of game Japanese would enjoy, it\'s more American.

Apart from being on-line, what\'s so different about it from previous FF...and how did PSO do over there?

PSO did 230,000 I think, don\'t quote me on that. That was between the two versions, I believe. They did much better over here, which is probably going to be the case in the USA, where everyone but 4 or 5 of us die waiting for the next Final Fantasy game. It will probably be 5x the success over here, but I don\'t think the game will last as long as PSO will. I think people will tire of paying 10 dollars a month (plus money for additional characters) for one game on a console.

Who knows, though, who knows. I DO know that FFXI won\'t be hitting 300,000 anytime soon, if ever.

83 thousand isn\'t bad. It\'s not what you would expect from a FF title. But considering I think that\'s pretty good.

OMG!! Is this the turnout Square expected?  Considering you have to buy an add-on I would think the projected sales to be quite low...

They need 200,000 people signed up monthly to be profitable. They better advertise the hell out of this as "The Next Everquest" or something, otherwise they are gonna be losing money faster than...Square Pictures, incidentally :)

If PSO did quite so well, I bet FF can surpass it being the more popular of the two...

BTW, how much is it: PSO vs. FF to play online?

PSO is 15 bucks for 3 months, but it\'s popularity has SEVERELY dropped since they started charging. 5 bucks a month sounds petty, but after having it free, it hurts. My friend paid for a few months and we played for a while, but after that we stopped paying, and therefore stopped playing :( I guess it will gear me up for a year from now when I will have to pay for XBox Live and FFXI (if it turns out to be good) and Farnation, if Sega ever comes to announcing it :)

btw, NHL2K3 is online only for XBox. I have this picture in my head of EA as a crying baby and Sega with pockets stuffed full of money and sales figures :)

I really want to get back into a MMORPG but I can\'t decide which one...and as for Farnation, I read about that one some time ago.  It seemed very Sega(cool), I hope it wasn\'t canceled...

I definitely heard rumors and thought I heard some semi-confirmations of it coming, hopefully something gets announced about it, don\'t let it get erased from time like Type X Spiral Nightmare, another interesting sounding game that got lost in the post announcement DC shuffle. :(

Well, for a game that requires an expensive add on, pay to play, and an ethernet adapter\\56k modem just to play, I\'m pretty surprised it\'s even selling this well.  The Japanese do not have a good online structure.  The problem with Japan is that there is no such thing as a local call.  Everything there costs money, it\'s really bad, but since cell phones probably get free minutes in certain plans, that\'s probably why they are so great over there.  Kind of hard to go online over a cell phone though.

I\'m sure it will do better here, but even in saying that, I\'m not too impressed by the game as it is.  Socom is much more for me.  That... and Capcon vs SNK 2... :D

Did you think maybe they aren\'t producing many games?
