new console debate/discussion poll

ok, i\'ll set aside my kommunist ways for this thread and let popular belief rule

we all agree this part of the forum needs a change

should we just change the name to "console discussion" and tighten the reigns af whats tolerated?

OR

should we split the current forum into "console discussion" and "console debating"

console discussion - more rational
console debate - more violent

granted it will be more work on the mods moving posts from discussion to debate when people get worked up, but thats fine

doesnt matter to me either way, the choice is yers

Indeed it is my suggestion, but it\'s a request that has been put forth for awhile.  People need space without ridicule to discuss other consoles.  I\'m sick and tired of threads turning into XBox roast fests all because it\'s based on an XBox game.  It\'s time we changed all that.

Just crack down on offenders.  Come on, whats changing the name gonna do?  Start handing out temporary bans.  Debating isint bad, infact i think its healthy.  But "STFU my console kicks your mother ****ing console\'s ass" Is not debating, thats where you ban someone.

As for the split, disscusion and debating...hmmmm eventually discussion will turn into debate and then you will have yourself two "IGN quality" forums.

Leave forums as they are.  INFORCE RULES.

I\'ve long rallied for a split, and I hope it comes to pass.  I hope never to see another sales report, screenshot comparison or "flopbox suxors" thread again.

nor do I have to look at misleading thread titles like "mind-blowing (x-box title here) screen shots" along those lines.  It\'s win-win.

both of those could be considered in discussions or debate...it depends how you approach it.

I think the split is the best option.  If you just change the name, I doubt much will change.  Just make two forums, and enforce the rules very tightly in the discussion forum.  You have to leave a debating forum though.  People enjoy doing their share of bashing at times, and if there\'s no other place to do it, it will just appear in the discussion forum.

I think they both suck, and things are fine the way they are, regardless what you call it there will be flaming.

The flaming will be left for debating, hopefully to a lesser extent though.

As long as the mods take it seriously, I don\'t see why it wouldn\'t work.

Regardless, when you have people talking about "consoles" in general, your gonna get discussions which turn into arguments which eventually turn into flaming. Constant as the Northern Star.

they\'re not going to be talking about Xbox vs. PS2 for example.  I believe discussion would be for things like "Look at these Starfox pics".  PS2 or XBox wouldn\'t/shouldn\'t be brought into the discussion...

Now if you would like to discuss consoles, go into debating...

If I\'m thinking wrong, Ryu or Bob, help me out...

The thread can easily slide in one direction. Even a subject as simple as that can be percieved as Gamecube boosting, which alot of PS2/X-box fanboys will be defended by.
