Who\'s the most important 3rd party?
« on: June 10, 2002, 10:39:22 AM »
Who\'s the most important not what you think but from a public stand point.  In japan i would have to say square(only cause of FF), enix(only cause of Dragon Quest), capcom and konami.  In the USA i would have to say namco, ea, sega, capcom, and rockstar games.  So who\'s the most important 3rd party you guys think? :thepimp:

Sega.

They have better sports and  all-around games while Squaresoft is an overrated one-trick-Pony.
When all is said and done...the PS2 will be remembered as the console with the best games in Fall 2001.

Capcom. No other third party (\'cept Sega now) has as many franchises , and not just franchises but high selling franchises. No other third party has as many blockbuster games either. Not to mention Capcom has been an important third party since the 8-bit days.

Probably Sega. They were arguably the best 1st-party, and now they\'re arguably the most important 3rd-party.

If not them.. EA. Maybe Activision, Konami, or Capcom. Rockstar? Meh, once they exploit GTA and other "racy" games to the point of them not being fun anymore.. Rockstar is over. Rockstar seems to be a one-trick pony.

They failed to sell the DC, what makes them so important?
Its what consumers like and what they are going to buy that makes a 3rd party important, not the games they make.
Its the 3rd parties that people buy a console for, such as Square or Capcom.

I believe it\'s a good combination of them that make a succesful console...

EA, Sega, Capcom, Square, Namco, and Konami are among the most important.

Rare is not included because the thread asked who is the most important 3rd Party?  Since Rare has yet to produce for anyone but Nintendo, they have no part in here...:nerd:

I don\'t think Rare is third party.  They\'re more like second party.
edit: oops, too late.

My ranking:

1. Capcom -- Lots-o-games \'n variety.  Nuff said.

2. Square -- they\'ve recently experienced some problems (FF movie/FFXI in Japan), but they still make the games that have an enormous world-wide cult following.

3. Sega -- a lot of their games are too different to interest more than their small cult following, but some of their games coming out this year look like they will appeal to a broader audience.
