pstwo, how in the f*ck can you compair Shenmue II to Morrowwind? Are you stoned? They\'re two completely different genres. Do you even know what an RPG is??
While Shenmue focuses on a good story and classic RPG gameplay - Hurricane
Classic RPG gameplay? Just where is that classic RPG gameplay may I ask? I mean.. I just got to disk 2 on Shenmue I, (playing through for the 4th time) and I\'ve yet to see it in either game in the series. The only RPG element to it is the ability to improve your martial arts moves. Where are your lvls? Where are your stats? HP? What magic or special abilities can you learn? Can you name your own character? Speaking of characters.. where\'s your Party?? I might even kinda sorta understand about where you\'re comming from is maybe you had to improve your skills to overcome obsticals in the game. As it is now, you can play through the entire game and never practice your skills once and still have no problem beating the game.
To the contrary of what people have heard, Shenmue isn\'t an RPG. It has a few light RPG elements.. but they\'re not present enough to define the Genre. You could call it F.R.E.E, but that\'s just a hype buzzword.. not a real genre. What defines a F.R.E.E game? Think about that.. and then compaire those elements to other genres and I think you\'ll find one genre that it fits nearly identically.
As much as some people might like to laud Shenmue as revolutionary, there\'s really nothing in it that hasn\'t been done before.. mostly in one game I can think of in particular from 1989. The similarities are striking actually. Yet even that game has far ~FAR~ more RPG elements than Shenmue does. Guess what tho? It\'s not an RPG.. well.. it\'s not wholly considered an RPG at any rate.
Sheesh.. kids today. You think anything with a huge and dynamic storyline is an RPG.
