Do not underestimate the power of PS2 - Tekken 4
« on: September 18, 2002, 04:04:34 AM »
I have just got to say that this would have to be one of the most graphically amazing games yet to grace the PS2, and in progressive scan mode on a hi spec TV or monitor, the results are even surpassed!

The game contains no jaggies, it is as smooth as silk, and runs at a constant 60fps. Whilest character models aren\'t really anything to rave about (there great, they really are, but nothing better then TTT. Similar to DOA3) but they do the job.

The thing that is really impressive is the amount of poly\'s this game can through around. The locations are massive, and I mean massive, and you can basically go where ever you can see. There are also so many spectators in many of the arena\'s, and they are suprisingly detailed.

The final arena has, no joke, about 1000+ individual moving spectators in this massive arena all moving around and cheering. They look fully 3D, and are quite detailed, though I have a feeling that it might be a trick to the eye (they certainly arent sprites though).

I gotta hand it to Namco, this is one sexy game, certainly on par to DOA3 (in a technical sense, but they are too very different games).

I really, really hope that they get started on Ridge Racer 6 soon, as Namco are really learning the PS2.

Yeah...even on normal TV  it looks great. I won\'t say total lack of jaggies but it\'s level of jaggies are acceptable and on par with the jaggies on the XBox, DC etc.

No comment on the progressive scan mode though since I don\'t have HDTV.

I also have Namco\'s Ninja Assault and it looks pretty sharp too.

Just hope Soul Calibur 2 will look this sharp as well. :)

I played it the other day and it does look great - although I am a bit underwhellmed by the characters. Apart from that though, this game is beautiful and the arenas, as you point out, are very nice. The picture quality is superb, especially on a good TV. Wouldn\'t mind trying it on a monitor...

So what you are saying is that this game is better that VF4?

I already have VF4 and I want to know if it is worth shelling out for this as well.

I\'ve got 15 down on it and I am thinking about not even picking it up. THe more and more I think about it and play TTT , the more I realize I\'m just tired of Tekken in general. I may still pick it up  - I\'m not sure. Graphically, it\'s great. Gameplay, it\'s broken.

I agree...the Tekken spirit has lost me...not as fun as it once was. It is a sad day...

Tekken is just as fun as ever.  But it\'s a MULTIPLAYER game.

If you want a single player fighting game, stick with VF4, because nothing can touch it, but Tekken reigns supreme as a party game

(although probably because not many people actually bother to learn VF4 properly to make it good multiplayer)
