Videogame Industry on Verge of Imploding?
« on: September 25, 2002, 06:32:27 PM »
Shenmue III is not in development and won\'t be unless Shenmue II is a success on XBox. Yu Suzuki has the next 5 chapters already written out in book form and has sketches and all that up until chapter 11, but development won\'t happen unless Shenmue II is a success.

...Shit.

If there\'s no Shenmue III, the video-game industry won\'t have to implode.. because I\'ll gather the life energy from every living creature in this galaxy to create a giant ball of light, and then hurl it at.. at.. them. The.. the people.

The people that didn\'t buy Shenmue II!

It won\'t solve anything, but it\'ll be an awesome sight.. wouldn\'t you say?

You\'re just now realizing this, Eric? I never figured we would see the full saga of Shenmue, espically with the low sales that Shenmue 2 will receive and the fact that a lot of people just don\'t \'get it\'. Sega can\'t afford to keep making the Shenmue series if it isn\'t bringing in the money, espically when you consider the high production value\'s that Yu Suzuki and Sega put into the Shenmue games.

With that said - I almost wish Sega would of released Shenmue 2 on the PS2, just for it would of had a bigger install base to sell to and gave us a slightly bigger hope of at least see\'ing Shenmue 3...Alas, most likely we will never see it, never the less the next eleven chapters that Yu has wrote down.

/me would settle for a book detailing what was suppose to happen in the series..

Sega has a reputation to uphold :

Make expensive money pit games on consoles that aren\'t that popular.[/i]

Its funny because its true!
Who is this anamoly we call Jumpman? How is he able to do what he does and still survive after years of torment? It seems he feeds on the hate, growing with an intense passion to put unassuming members in their place.

Well they could start by releasing it on the XBox in EUROPEAN TERRITORIES.

Or they could have put it on the ****ing PS2.

They may make great games, but they are a bunch of morons, I swear. :(

again?  what about people who never owned a DC?  Releasing it in Euro territories could ONLY help their cause.

**** man, that\'s one of the reasons I bought the XBox.  Send me your Dreamcast mm!!

no way, i still play mine
i see them sold at funcoland for 25$

releasing it in japan and europe will result in low sales because

1.  its a niche title
2.  it was already released there on a superb format (even then it had lackluster sales)

sega will regret this in the long run, as they should have released it on PS2 also

I\'m well aware how low the sales will be in Europe, but overall, obviously it would be higher than if they did not.

And I\'m just annoyed :(

Ignorance is one of the cold facts of life. Many masterpieces are buried under mass-produced lightweight titles. While I have never played Shenmue, I would love to try it if I had the Dreamcast.

This situation reminds me of Looking Glass entertainment. One of the greatest game-developers ever ( System Shock 2, Thief I & II etc. ) had to be closed due to burger-games selling better.

Players just won\'t understand...

indeed

thief 1 and 2 were two of the finest FPS\'s created

BUT, they were niche titles that were overshadowed by thier action intense brothers like quake2 and half life

Who the hell are u?Goku or something?:D

Sega is stupid. And just imagine how many sales XBOX has in japan and where the game is most popular.Even if every japanese XBOX owner buys it Shenmue2 would still have very VERY LOW sales. And the PS2 rules everywhere in sales.Go figure now.

There is more to the videogaming industry than the Shenmue series.

In fact I have never even played a Shenmue title and I\'m happy with my current games. The future looks good for gaming in general also IMO.
