I\'m not taking any chances...I\'m buying household insurance and putting my PS2 into the list. If the lens blows up, I\'ll just fry it with an overdose of electricity(with an adpator with wrong voltage)  to make sure it\'s absolutely dead and claim insurance for "lightning strike"!!!! Ha-ha!!!

other than this extreme measure, I\'m also putting up other less agressive defense system...like putting voodoo dolls, holy water, crosses, statues, garlic, onions, cucumbers, bat wings, lizards blood, etc etc around my PS2 to protect it.

MAXIMUM SECURITY!!!!!!

Oh, I heard from my friend Legends of legia 2 should be out or out soon. I love the original PSX game, guess I\'ll have no choice but to pick this up soon....damn.

So many games....so little time.

Because I was talking about games on this generation in general.

Most of them are getting better graphically, but show a serious lack of new ideas. Most of the time, improved technology only means better looking games, but not better games overall IMHO. There\'re some old games out there that prove that quite easily.

But I agree that there\'re some very promising titles comming in the next few months, and the next batch of PS2 titles look quite polished from a technical standpoint, specially compared to launch titles.
Whatever

Falgarok: I see your point but I don\'t think we should be whining about this. Whatever that could\'ve been done have already been done mostly and there\'s probably wasn\'t any original games since Tetris.

As long as they give me "bigger, better and badder", I don\'t mind.
After all, if u look at PC market, it\'s been overflooded with FPS and RTS...at least the console  have a better variety of games, eventhough it\'s nothing new.

Like grandia Xtreme, though who have played the 1st 2 games will probably agrees the 1st was the best and the subsequent are more of the same....but hell, I\'m not complaining!!!

Nah, I still think we\'ll see some innovative gameplay in the future.

I had the same problem with the last generation of consoles.
I found most of the first generation games back then to be way too short, way too easy and not too playable (except for WipeOut). I kept all day playing with my older systems because it seemed to me that developers were having a hard time making the transition from 2D to 3D.

But then, I played RE and it changed my mind completely.  I still consider that one the best moments I\'ve had with a videogame.

Other than that (the lack of innovation in most titles) and some horrid Pal conversions, I\'m enjoying this generation so far.
Whatever

There is one saving grace, if you expand a widescreen TV to cinema mode you can play the game in perfect proportions (no more short fat people) without losing any picture because of those irritating lines.

Every 30fps cloud has a silver lining!!

I have a pal PS2 and I am enjoying my games a lot.I get a bit disappointed like when I see the NTSC version of DMC for example being a lot faster than mine but no reason to feel bad about my PAL PS2.
I am very very happy with my PS2 so far.

I MUCH prefer having a PAL version of FFX than having to put up with the NTSC version.

PAL version has a LOT less jaggies
a LOT less Shimmeries
a bonus Documentary DVD
Extra Subquests and bosses etc.

and prolly more that I can\'t think of right now :)

I remember the Pal version of Soul Calibur had some extras that werent included in the US version and shenmue 2 wasnt even released on the US so it can\'t be all that bad for the europeans.

In that bonus DVD you can see footage of the NTSC version and it looks WAY better.

I know you love FF and all, but come on, this is one of the worst Pal conversions I\'ve ever seen. By the way you\'re putting it, it sounds like if the Pal version was even better than the NTSC one, which is not, in fact it\'s a much, much inferior version (like DMC, Onimusha and so many others).

Sorry if I sound like I\'m whining or overreacting here, but I\'m so tired of all this thing. It makes me sick.

For comparison, here are some screenshots (I don\'t know if it\'s possible to see the borders in the forum though):

NTSC version

Pal version

And most Pal conversions not only look worse (I\'m not talking about shimmeries here, I\'m talking about how everything on the screen looks squashed, which is not that bad in some conversions, but in FFX...), they have choppy framerates (SSX) or seem like if you\'re playing the game in slow motion (DMC, TTT), which makes the games less fun to play most of the time.
Whatever

Hi, Astro :)

Soul Calibur had a good conversion with 60Hz support and all (like most DC games, kudos to SEGA).

Yep, Shenmue 2 wasn\'t released in the US, neither Wip3Out, but those are exceptions to the rule. There\'re tons of games that never were released in Europe. Some RPGs, for example:

Super Mario RPG
FF Tactics
FF 1-6 (they\'re releasing them now for the PSX)
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Chross
Xenogears
Parasite Eve
Legend of Mana

I think it\'s not that bad, is it? ;)

What would you be saying if you\'re in our situation. Try waiting for a year to play FFX, paying more than 60 USD for it and popping it in your PS2 just to realize that you\'ve a mere shadow of the real thing... game after game, year after year, system after system, disappointment after disappointment. If that happened in the US just one time...

FFX case is specially bad because SCEE literally laughed in our faces:

Quote
SCEE:
"In preparation for the European release of FFX, we have carefully examined the technical factors involved with the PAL conversion. After a thorough analysis of both the 50/60Hz switch and full screen display support, our development team has come to the conclusion that these features cannot be implemented due to the lack of free space for image data on the DVD to support the 50/60Hz switch.

In order to do a 60hz switch, it would have been necessary for the development team to store all of the FMV files on the DVD disc twice (in both 50hz and 60hz modes) and there was simply not enough space on the disc to achieve this."

What a piece of utterly BS

Things are starting to change now, slowly, but changing at last. Games like Onimusha 2 or Tekken 4 have 60Hz support and it seems that the trend will continue :)
Whatever

woah, just saw your reply to me..

yes, I know it looks squashed, and I know the NTSC version looks better, but I would much rather have the bonus DVD, and the extra bosses.

And there were less jaggies and shimmeries, which is good :)

DMC was slowed down?  My god, I didn\'t even know, that game seems fast as hell

Life as a multi-console gamer is better though. :p
Who is this anamoly we call Jumpman? How is he able to do what he does and still survive after years of torment? It seems he feeds on the hate, growing with an intense passion to put unassuming members in their place.

That\'d have rocked :)

Anyway, the game is beautiful and the battle system has been improved quite a bit. And I like the characters, which was my biggest concern (it reminded me of FFVIII from the screenshots). There\'s too much railroading though.

D-Day

I\'m still waiting though.
But yeah, GC and Xbox users can\'t complain a bit about those conversions ;)
Whatever
