Flawed logic...

And it isn\'t my fault Sony wasn\'t on the ball and didn\'t get developer kits out to developers sooner for the PS2 could have stellar launch games. That\'s Sony\'s fault and I hold them responisble for that mess up, just like I do for the shortage of PS2\'s.

1.Bad architecture?New architecture is more correct:Developers had to create tools and their own programming language.Programming isnt only about graphics.

2.What is your point about the development time? :Nobody told u to excuse.Blame the developers.Too bored too mess with the new architecture.

3.And it isn\'t my fault Sony wasn\'t on the ball and didn\'t get developer kits :Its not ur fault. As much as u dont like it thats one of the reasons we didnt see better games sooner.BTW:Its not that the development kits didnt come sooner. Its that the PS2 launched before letting developers to get the grips with the hardware and the kits(with other words it wasnt ready for the launch).Personally I blame Sony for this reason although it was the best date to launch the PS2 to create a huge install base sooner it wasnt good news for us gamers then.

Oh, and the PS2 does have a game which can compete with Shenmue graphically.. as soon as Konami gets around to releasing it. Silent Hill 3 looks to be the first game on the PS2 to really break the "DC" barrier and produce graphics that even the DC\'s top game couldn\'t match. Bout f\'ing time isn\'t it?

But when will a developer deliver a game on PS2 that can compete it in gameplay style? Its the only game where u play in a civilised, social virtual world. Its almost a real city.

Whenever those kinda games become profitable. The series carried a pricetag of about 100 million dollars or more combined.. and early projections suggest Sega won\'t be making a new one because gamers just aren\'t interested in it at the moment. That could be just because it\'s only been released on platforms with low userbases... but then again.. look at ICO. Like mm has been saying.. it\'s a niche title.

I hate it when great games dont get the attention they deserve.Shenmue is a revolutionary RPG.You are indeed playing a Role.Thats the kind of game I expected from next gen consoles. They managed to create such a title on the weaker DC.Its a masterpeice but people seem to prefer games similar to the ones they used to play on older generations.GTA3,GT3,DOA3,Project Gotham,SH2,FFX,ODDWORLD,SC2,T4.......nothing offers anything truely revolutionary but they are more succesfull.

Its the only truely next gen title IMO.If only there wasnt the slowdown and had less predefined fighting scenes some might say.But is there a perfect game? No.SEGA should have made it on PS2(bigger userbase) so people would start paying attention and give a lesson or two to other developers (and increase the chances of a sequel and games similar to it).

All these games you listed don\'t interest me at all,It is your right to say the DC is your favourite as it is mine to say the DC is not worth $1.It depends on your game tastes. My favourite is PS2 however when the next gen consoles hit it will change.

I dont own every system ever released but i have emulators of almost every console ever released as well as thousands of games :D

I will have to say the 2 most underrated consoles of all time would have to be Neo Geo and DC. The Neo Geo  apart from having the best collection of fighters ever (World Heroes, Samurai Showdown, Last Blade, King of Fighters, Fatal Fury, Waku Waku 7,etc) also has an impressive number of high quality puzzle games (Magical Drop 2&3, Panic Bomber, Bomberman, Gururin,Money Exchanger, Puzzle Booble, etc) and awesome shooters (Metal Slug, Pulstar, Blazing Star, Shock Troopers, etc).

The Dreamcast is a hardcore gamer paradise with lots of awesome 2d fighters and shooters. Games such as  Street Fighter 3, Last Blade 2,Vampire Chronicles, Zero Gunner 2, Radiant Silvergun 2, Mars Matrix can only be found on DC. It also boasts some great racing games ( Test Drive Le Mans, Daytona Usa, MSR, Sega GT, Vanishing Point), 3d fighters (Soul Calibur, Power Stone 1 &2, Virtua Fighter 3, DOA2, Fighting Vipers 2), RPGs (the very underated Elemental Gimmick Gear, Skyes, Grandia 2, Record of Lodoss War, Silver), cool weird games (samba, typing of dead, space channel 5, Floigan Bros, OOga Booga, Jet Set Radio,Charge and Blast)  awesome sport games (nba2k2, Nfl2k2, Tennis 2k2, Tony Hawk 2, Wsb2k2), survival games ( Resident Evil 2,3,cv, Alone in the Dark, Blue Stinger)  fine fun for the whole family games games (sonic, Rayman 2, Puzzle Fighter 2, Mr Driller, Ms Pacman, Super Magnetic Neo, etc) and of course Shenmue 1 & 2 and PSO 1&2.

All of that quality gaming plus you can play Snes, Mame, Genesis, Nes emulators as well as online play, a VGA connection, Gun games (virtua cop 2, death crimson, house of the dead, confidential mission) keyboard and mouse support, etc, etc. Certainly worthy of being called one of the best of all time IMO.

Playing a role has nothing to do with being a role playing game.  A role playing game stems from having various roles to choose from.  Shenmue doesn\'t have these roles, or the statistical/experience upgrading of your characters.  Which are probably the two key factors to defining a Role-Playing Game.

Putting it on the PS2 would increase it\'s chances of selling more, but ultimately, even that would fail.  Besides, could you imagine the slowdown and graphical downgrades that would be incurred by Sega putting it on the PS2?  Ugh..

And yeah, the PS2 got Code Veronica - but who had it first? The DC and which version looks better? The DC version. I own them both. I\'ve played them both extensively and even wrote hatemail to Capcom for what I deem a shoddy port of RE:CV....

Who cares.. Code Veronica was a travesty to possibly my all-time favorite game series :crap:

Doesn\'t DC also have RE: C: VX?
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

Now.. in GTA3 can you: Take care of animals, buy capsule toys, open individual drawers in the houses you enter, buy a soda from a vending machine, ect.. ect.. ect.

But is that really fun to do...

is it?!?!

Atleast GTA3\'s freedom is fun to do: Drive cars, use guns, fly vehicles, etc. etc. etc.

I know comparing Shenmue and MGS2 isn\'t very smart but I\'m comparing the movie feel of the games, not the gameplay, because in that aspect they\'re totally different.

GTA3 and Shenmue on the other have some things in common, both games make the player wander around a big city, both let you get jobs and earn money, both let you do whatever the hell you want to do, but GTA3 just give you alittle more freedom imo. Or at least a great amount of fun with the freedom.

Shenmue is a revolutionary RPG.You are indeed playing a Role.Thats the kind of game I expected from next gen consoles. - Unicron!

Ironic isn\'t, that a game you expect from "next generation" consoles bears strong similarities to games released over 20 years ago.. and a striking resemblance to a series that was released over 12 years ago. Shenmue, really, is nothing in and of itself revolutionary. What Shenmue managed to do was to take revolutionary aspects from several older games and combine them in a very highly polished and solidly constructed game that is both simple and fun to play.

On that note: Shenmue is not an RPG. Regardless of what other companies/organizations may be calling it, Shenmue is an Adventure game. That\'s what Sega calls it outside of their "F.R.E.E" hype genre.. and even Yu Suzuki gives credit to the games which insipired Shenmue in various interviews.. those titles are specifically Adventure games.

GAMES - Yes, all that is fun to do. I doubt you would understand since I highly doubt you were PC gaming back in the late 80\'s thru early 90\'s. You\'re expecting action and bloodshed to make a game fun.. but there\'s other ways which other gamers enjoy their games. For me, at least, exploration and interaction is a HUGE part of what makes a game enjoyable. Shenmue delivered both of these in spades.. and on a far greater level than GTA3 did.

You\'ve just pointed out the key as to why Shenmue is a niche title on consoles. Had it been released in the early 80\'s on the PC with improved puzzles.. then I have no doubt that Shenmue would have become a smash success compairable to even Monkey Island.

Also.. since you\'re bringing up the subject of fun.. how is watching an FMV cutscene very much fun? Ok.. so MGS2 has better cinematics. Does it make the game more fun.. how does it enhance gameplay.. and how can it when you\'re simply watching it and not actually ~doing~ anything? That\'s not gaming.. that\'s watching a movie.

And as for freedom.. nice how you knocked it down to basically "I don\'t care for freedom if it\'s not fun.. so we can knock out all of Shenmue\'s freedoms and put it on par with GTA3\'s freedom which is actually fun for me". That\'s not the way it works tho...  Weither fun for you or not.. the level of freedom to do what you want IS greater in Shenmue.

Ugh.. why I am even bothering, just stop compairing the two as it does a huge injustice for both games.. not to mention accomplishes nothing since they aren\'t even remotely similar. *Ugh*

Sega Soccer Slam
Super Smash Bro\'s: Melee

I believe you were referring to my comment there.

First off I know the NGC has some fun games that were critically acclaimed. My comment fit my own gaming needs. RE Zero, Metroid Prime I will most likely buy. RE and Rouge 2 are the only games I have for it now. Great games.

I am sure the others you listed are good games just not my cup of tea. I just believe compared to the PS2 and X-box the NGC is a little lite in the type of games I want.

I just at this point dont see much from them on the horizon. Check me if I am wrong. I just need to see more to make that purchase worthwhile.

Animal Crossing GOTY? For NGC or for all? Is that the one were you make towns for the little animals? Dont sound like my kind of game but I might have to try it out if you say it is that good.

I should really come to this forum more often...

Anyway, my favorites:

SNES
NES
Genesis

Those are the big 3 for me.  I doubt, with the way gaming is going, that they will ever be beat.

Then again, PS2 isn\'t even my favorite console of this generation.  That honor belongs to Gamecube.

Yes, you\'re right I didn\'t play PC games in the 80s, 90s or even today.
I expect action games to be fast paced and enjoyable at all times. I also enjoy exploration in games. Shenmue was good( yes, I played it) but after awhile I got tired of it.
