I wouldn\'t bother with the PC3200 DDR ram.. better off with pc2700.

Read here

I\'ve read somewhere else. (awhile ago) that people are getting better benchmarks with pc2700 rather then pc3200. Personally i rather test them both out for myself. But as it sits i\'m looking more at pc2700 as a update then pc3200.

yea, i know that ddr400 is no better, actually, less in performance compared to ddr333, but the way i see it, its not THAT significant, and using pc3200 makes my computer just a tad bit future proof.  also, if i o/c, that little bit extra available speed of ddr400 will help out, right?
so really, to me, its not a big deal.
only thing i\'m worried about is how many of the 3 ram slots my mobo has can handle ddr400, from what i\'ve seen, only the first one can do ddr400, or the the first and second with ddr333, or i can fill all three with ddr266.  i still need to get the full info specs on my mobo, it was an impluse buy.

Pc3200 has problems running in more then 1 dimm. So i advice u to get a single dimm of 512meg etc. So u don\'t get any problems.

thats exactly what i was going to do.
right now i have 2 sticks of pc2100 ( 256MB each ), both kingston value ram, but according to sandra pro, at CL2.5, one ram stick runs at 133MHz, which it should, but the other runs at 143MHz.  so basically, i can o/c, but that one ram stick limits me since it does 133MHz max.  i learnt my lesson.
btw, if i did get the one stick of ddr400, 512MB, and then later on wanted another, will i have to run them at 333MHz to prevent problems?  i mean, will i have to physically change the settings in the BIOS, or will the computer do it for me?

You should be ok underclocking 2 Dimms of 400mhz ddr to 333mhz .. But you\'ll probably have to do it in bios.  But i\'m sure 512meg ram would be enough anyway. I\'ve got 1 stick of Kingston pc2100 512meg.  I\'m personally gonna try and get my hands on 2 sticks of kingston mem.1 400mhz 512meg and  1 333mhz 512meg and benchmark them to find out which will do better in all memory modes. Then buy 1.

I have an oldie...

PIII 866Mhz
512 MB RAM
40 GB HD
GeForce 4 64 MB
DVD ROM
CD RW
17 Inch Monitor

I have to add I got this from Alienware a little over 2 years ago and it was the biggest waste of money I ever spent.  3 bad HD\'s, 2 bad Vid Cards (GeForce 2\'s) and a broken DVD player...
