basically, what is the cheapest i could get a set for.  Like a beginner set....no name or anything.  With symbols...maybe a ride/crash  but thats it.

its cymbals not symbols.

and your going to want a hi-hat most of all. a ride is really pretty optional, alot of times people odnt use it. crash is second important.

hihat, crash, ride that order.

but dont jump into this, buy a decent snare drum, and if you like that, then get the set.

I really can\'t believe how many dumb people are on here!
DAMN!

Electric kits are worthless???? Are you crazy?
Ever heard of the Roland V-sessions? Get out of the cave Barney, Fred\'s calling!

Some of the new electric kits are the cats ass! Do a search on the Roland V-sessions. Yep they are expensive but worth every penny. Or better yet, go out to a music store and try them out.

Now some of the other kits mentioned are good for beginners like the Pearls and Tamas I have a pearl and I love it.

As for those ACRYLIC LUDWIG’S (plastic yeah RIGHT!) that are posted as being a kit to stay away from, that kit is one of Ludwig’s most top end kits. It goes for HELLA bucks and is sweet because it is see-thru. And I have heard that kit in person it, it freaking rules!

Oh yeah and don\'t let anyone on here talk you into buying Zildjian cymbals, most are junk, stick with Paiste\'s that are more $$ but once you buy them you now have the top of the line and you won\'t have to spend more time and $$ upgrading those trash can lid Z\'s

dude, electronic drum sets are retarded AND gay.

have fun pounding those rubber pads with yer headphones on.

i GUESS electronic sets could be cool to you i f you like nine inch nails or korn or whatever else, but REAL drummers dont play plastic pads hooked up to an effects machine.

man, you think see-through drums are sweet?

okay, you obviously have no taste in drums.

hey, why dont you go out and get a electronic, see-through set and then you can play along to some orgy songs and put extra reverb on it.... that would be cooooooooooooool.

*sits down at this thing*

boy, i sure am rockin\' now.

*electronic cymbal goes kssssh ksssh kssssh.*

Like I said, crawl out your cave Barney Rubble and go TRY one of these things. The new ones are sweet ass!

THIS is more what I am talking about.

But they are about 5 grand! So I can understand your anger about them, it\'s probably just because you can\'t afford them!!!
LOL!

And I do dig the acoustic drums too, like I said I have a Pearl kit, but I\'m not so blind that I would knock a $5000 V-sessions Kit!
And I have see some VERY good players use these kits and man can they sing!

Here is MY studio kit:

Anyway more about the first post, you can get just about any kit sounding good with good heads. Drums are easy to trick out to make sound pretty good. Just don\'t skimp on cymbals, you cant to anything with a crappy cymbal (except to send it back to Zildjian!)

See through drums look pretty lame, IMO

Electronic drums are pretty lame too. I mean the whole fun is to tune it differently and just goof around with it sometimes. An electric drumset takes away alot of the fun.

Word.

My friend has a set of Ludwig "Vista Lites" (sp?) and they do sound great. They are definately geared to the hard-hitting style of a rock drummer.

It should be noted that Nine Inch Nails uses both. A good combination of both .

:D
Jermey Dillion, their current drummer is simply awesome.

duely noted!

and gman, i HAVE tried them, on many occasions.

seriously, what kinda drummer are you then? if you say rap or r&b then i can say "yeah, that makes sense"
if you want electronic drums why not just buy a drum machine?

Mostly I play Metal, but lately I have been playing more lighter stuff due to the singer I am with (Sheryl Crow kind of sound).
But no matter what I would like to incorperate those bad boys into my kit someday. You know even TOOL\'s drummer uses them.
DOH! I bet your world just crumbled!

uh... not really.

i dont like electonic drums man, i dont care who uses em cause i dont.

this started out with me telling square that if he wants to learn the drums, DONT do it on an electronic set. and i stand by that.

you cant learn the feel of drums hitting plastic pads.
