Sony\'s anti-war tv advert
« on: February 11, 2003, 05:57:05 PM »
taken from the GRADAR forum

I was just watching MTV and an advert came on. It showed the guy from The Getaway stadding against a wall, he put his guns away. It then showed some Tekken fighters backing away from each other. Then it showed Ratchett putting his gun away and finally showed Tommy Vercetti lowering his gun. Words then filled the screen, it said "No war, please" then the Sony symbols came up, but the O was a peace sign. All to a melancholy tune.

Yeah...when it came to the GTA game, when he was putting his gun down...it really makes you think about that kind of stuff. This whole war has got me thinking a lot. War is hell, death is tragedy. I just want it to end. I dunno what I\'d do if mass terrorism starts breaking out and tens of thousands of people get sick from stupid viruses. I hate Osoma and Suddam Hussein (So-Damn Insane).

Well said. Also reveals the insignificance of videogames, and the real problems at hand.

Well, I don\'t really think videogames are insignificant in any way. They\'re just like other media like books, music and film at that ; part of the peacefull everyday life we cherish. To some extent they can even prove a sort of catharsis effect on what NOT to do.
Heck, Hideo Kojima gets his peacefull message accros to millions of ppl via a \'simple\' video game called MGS. That\'s a good thing imho :)

First I could not believe it..
It did not look very "Sony:ish" if you know what I mean..

Very unlike them..

But props for Sony for standing up.

PS: The song.. THE song, why not choose John Lennon’s “Give Peace a chance” or something? :p

so yer saying kids playing violent games do not desensitize them to violence?

we\'re a violent culture.  the media we watch and listen to has turned us into this

violence has become almost comical

its absurd to even contest this

If kids aren\'t allowed to play videogames, they shouldn\'t be allowed to watch the news either. With all the slaughter going on in Israel.

Maybe it\'s just me but i find playing games vents my frustration. So when I\'m aggresive, instead of going into a bar and punching someone in the nose I\'ll just play guilty gear x for half an hour and my agression\'s gone.

My two cents.

but why do you feel violent when you become "frustrated"

where does this compulsion come from?

why does seeing violence make you feel better?
