PARIS, March 10 (Reuters) - French President Jacques Chirac said on Monday that the disarmament of Iraq of its weapons of mass destruction would provoke the fall of the regime of President Saddam Hussein.

The French leader, who has led opposition to U.S. demands for Iraq to be disarmed of weapons of mass destruction by force made his comments in his first interview on national television on the Iraq crisis.

Chirac also said any move to impose U.S. trade sanctions against France because of its opposition to a U.S. war against Iraq would make no sense.
