I don\'t get cable, so I can\'t... but I would... the other made-for-tv series did the story far better justice than the fairly dated movie.  I\'m sure to   rent it when it comes out.

^^ hee hee, thanks LIC ^^

I agree the Ornithopters (planes) in the old movie didnt flap, and in the Book they are like a type of dragonfly. Frank herbert got the closest wiht them.....plus the wierding way did not use weapons in the book.

The David Lynch feature film had it\'s problems, I will admit.  The miniseries version of "Dune" made a number of improvements, but it fell short of the Lynch version in other ways.  I wish I could fuse the Lynch film with the miniseries, and just use the best parts of each one.

Anyway, I\'m not going to bother with "Children of Dune."  I enjoyed Dune when I read it as a child, but I remember trying to read Children of Dune after that.  I got half way through it and put it down because it was so mind numbingly boring.   Now I have no more interest in it.  I think Frank Herbert was always overrated.  If they were going to invest all this money in producing a television version of a classic SF series, why didn\'t they do Foundation?  I\'ve been waiting for some version, ANY VERSION of the Foundation novels for a long long time.

I watched that last night.  Not being a Dune junkie, I liked it, yet hated some things about it.  The story is good, but boring.  The actors are terrible and the costumes... don\'t even get me started.

As for the guy who was portraying Paul - could he have seemed any less god like?  I mean this guy has all this power, yet seems impetious at times.  Also he wasn\'t that imposing in stature.

Couple of questions...

Who are the midget and Duncan?  They were the same type of being... forget what they are called.

Who was Susan Sarandon playing?  I tuned in after the first hour.

Duncan is a Clone of Pauls friend....obviously too perfect.......
the midgit was kinda like a trigger to set duncan off but that backfired didnt it........or did it........

Susan sarandon is playing Princess Wensicia who is Emporer Shaddam the IV\'s daugher in the House Corrino.  Scifi.com has a Family tree on their Dune site.

So far so good. Keep in mind that they fused two books into one
to make the movie.

Which two?

Yeah, I read the first book, but I also was unable to make it through Children of Dune. There better be some kind of action, because I didn\'t make very far past the mind numbing conversation at the beginning.

I haven\'t been able to watch any of it yet, thank god for TiVo!

I couldn\'t remember which book came after Dune.  Was it Dune Messiah or Children of Dune?  Are those the two they combined for this miniseries?

Man does Sci-FI channel put in alot of Commercials! Children of dune was pretty good!  A little too much talking and to little action for my taste tho.... The final Battle was sweet tho.....Leto attacking al of those gaurds with the Weirding (sp) way....teleporting around the room kicking their butts!

It wasn\'t bad at all.  How many books came after those two though?  Does the story go on any farther?

Yeah it\'s a long series, after those there are God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, and Chapterhouse: Dune.

Then there\'s a whole bunch of prequels.
