Hating the French not for what they did.  If they had a just reason for vetoing the resolution then I\'d say rock on.  But they have alterior motives.  HUGE ones.  Chirac is a puppet to Saddam and it is sad.

The fact is the French would have opposed any action that involved removing Saddam from power AND it was for purely economical reasons.  

It is also a fact he is in clear violation of UN Resolutions - the SCUDS he launched at Kuwait last night should be adequate proof he did not dispose of the weapons he claimed to have gotten rid of.  

I agree every side has motives other than the ones they portray to be the real reasons, but France has a bucket full and they can only thank themselves for bringing the diplomatic process to a halt because of their selective "ignorance" to the facts that Saddam was and still is in violation of resolutions that they voted in favor of.

I would say its about even.

France "made" America. They saved you from the jaws of the British. They helped out to form your constitution.
To tell the truth I think this damn “we saved you”, “they saved you” thing is pretty damn silly.

I don’t think one should be forced to do anything if the really don’t want to.

But I think the French stance in the UN was a little naive, saying they would vote no to any resolution before they heard all of it was a not so wise choice IMO.

While I agree with most of what you said fastson, I would like to point out that when France helped the US gain its independence, it was more to stick it to the British than it was to help the US.  The French monarchy was still angry about the British kicking them out of North America in the French Indian War only 10-15 years prior.  

In all honesty I do think it is an overused argument regarding who helped who and it shouldn\'t be brought up.

The French and Brits have not been the best of friends in past times.

France did NOT make America.

They at least helped to make America. Without French support in the war there is no guarantee that the US would have won, not facing a well trained army as the Brits had.
