XM, Sirius, nothing?
« on: June 19, 2003, 03:41:42 PM »
Any of you have satellite radio?

I bought some sirius stock several weeks ago and I\'ve been having fun watching it ride.  I\'m getting a sirius deck for free and am wondering if any of you have it yet.  Looks to me like XM has the edge with programming since they are backed by Clear Channel.  But heym it\'s free.

Many people have bad views of ClearChannel, which is pretty much the Microsoft of the radio world.  http://www.caraudioforum.com might be able to give you some useful info on sat radio.

Clearchannel is the devil.  Anything or anyone with that much power is going to be hated.

I don\'t drive enough to warrant the monthly charge.

I drive over an hour every day with HORRIBLE radio stations.  Plus I make 13 bucks a month with the time it takes to crap at the office.  Too bad I\'m mud shy.

If I were in your situation I\'d go for it.  But I only drive about 15 minutes a day, and I get pretty decent stations.  If all fails I\'ll listen to a CD for the short jaunt (usually Sinatra)

I was listening to XM today on a trip and it really is nice.  Going back and forth from XM to FM is just sick.  Amazing how crappy FM really is.

If the satellite providers had NO commercials of any type, then I would consider paying for a service like that.  However, it\'s my understanding that they do have commericals, so I\'m not interested.

It\'s going to be harder to sell these services in big cities that already have a wide selection of free FM radio.  Even though it does have crappier frequency response.

They have very few commercials and only on a few of the stations.
Although XM has more commercials than sirius.

Only time I listened to Satelite radio was XM on a fishing boat in the Atlantic. It was cool :) Vid, if I was in your shoes, I\'d buy it. It would definitely be worth it. How much is the monthly charge though for Sirius?
