The American Heritage Dictionary:

Socialist. A social system in which the producers (ie. Health care, and all other products that would normally be dealt with through private enterprise in a "Capitalistic" society) possess both political power and the means of producing and distributing goods.

In other words, the .gov has controll of production and distribution of goods and services (like who gets into hospitals). In a perfect Socialist society, the common people are sheep, and the gov controls all. No need for ma and pa to open that store, the gov will handle it.

Here is the US we have the Constitution.
It outlines the rights of the Citizens and the role of the Government.

Some duties of the Government include; protection of enemies, both foreign and domestic, esablishing laws and regulations, and others.

Not running the medical system, not providing homes, not providing checks to stay home and pop out babies, etc..etc...

Just for starters.

It shows great ignorance to think that a socialist automaticaly is 100 % socialistic, that\'s just stupid.

I consider myself socialist, because my opinions are mostly in that direction, but that doesn\'t mean I have a purely socialistic thougt pattern.

Where did I say that if one has Socialistic ideas that they are 100% Socialist? I didn\'t. I was pointing out the ideal, and what would be under a "pure" Socialistic society. I never said anyone here was a pure socialist... just the specific IDEALS mentioned. So I displayed no ignorance there.

Sorry if it offended, I just can\'t put up with people putting words in my mouth. How in the world did you get to the conclusion from my statement that I would be in favor of NO GOVERNMENT?? My statement was about Socialism, and what would happen in a purely Socialistic society, I make no mention of MY government preferences. Even if you infer, correctly, that I favor capitalism, there is still a role for government as outlined in the US constitution. So yeah. Your statement was ignorant, being that it lacked facts. Sorry if I call a spade a spade, but you put words in my mouth, and I don\'t appreciate that.

The "Dolts" remark was for the people in general in the OT forums, not you specifically:p So now they can all hate me too.

Regardless, I was in a pissy mood yesterday and while I am not using that as an excuse or justification to my harshness, it admittadly did temper my response.

I have a feeling this argument is being fought over a misconception, I never meant to state you would be a pure capitalist, and I understand what you were trying to say. Most of the OT Dolts support your views, Cygnus.  I don\'t know how you got the idea that you\'re a voice in the wilderness.  You should come back and hang with Tyrant, GigaShadow, Ace, Bozco, and many others would would agree with you.  Sorry, but I\'m the exception.

I would like to try the "socialistic" model for a change.    I\'ve spoken with Canadians who have sampled both systems, and they LOVE the Canadian system.  I don\'t think you\'re going to find too many people who have lived under a socialized healthcare system and were unhappy with it.  You will of course find many spokespersons for healthcare corporations who will badmouth socialized medicine because it jeopardizes their profits.  That\'s to be expected though...

I do know that one of the editors at Official PSX magazine is trying to promote Same sex couples to it\'s readers,  therefore I discontinued reading a magazine whose editor(s) try to sway public opinion their way on controversial topics that have nothing to do with videogames.

I\'m letting both PSM, and OPM subscribtions lax. They have become too PC (politically Correct) for me. I don\'t need thought police in my videogame world, I get enough in real life.
