Bah, only practice shit. I\'ve lost many projects BTW during the update.. I forgot to save a folder. Go on with that cellie look because it rocks dude.

Tip: don\'t render the black line in the scene, adjust the background to show only a degraded or blurry environment.

How do you render with that black horizon line? Everytime I render something its just a plain boring black background, with no shadows or anything at all. I can change the colour of the background, but I never get any shadows or nothing.

That looks amazing Knotter.

Add some lights and check the "cast shadows" button, G.

Adjust the ambient light from the "environment" menu.

2 Racer ; Yeah, you could use a poly plane for floor surface. Or you could use a "Floor-object" like i did in the mech pics. But that\'s the name for it in Cinema4D XL, I wouldn\'t know the equivalent in 3D Max.
But like Adan said, it don\'t look very nice in the background becuz my "Sky-object" is 255, 255, 255 in RGB just as the ground and the spotlight has limited reach, so it didn\'t lit it\'s background. Anyway, this isn\'t of course the final scene. It\'s just for testing.
Try to start simple with just 1 spotlight and 1 backlight ( ambient or distant light ) and fiddle around a bit with fall-off and decay on the spotlight. Goodluck. :thepimp:

I just bought "3D Studio Max 5 Bible" by Kelly Murdoch from Borders, so hopefully it\'ll teach me all I need to know.

Its 1106 pages so it had better bloody be good.

Good book dude. Read, follow the tutorials, learn the base-knowledges, take notice of the tips and tricks and then read again. And remember that you will learn more practicing by yourself.

I am beginning to get the hang of it, its gonna take awhile though.

Everytime I exit 3DS Max, my computer seems to go really chuggy for some reason, and its weird, because its not chuggy when the program is actually running. Like, I can have multiple windows open and even mp3 playing, and its fine, but close the program and even typeing takes awhile.

QUESTION - If you Spline model, for instance, half a car, on top, side and front, back, how do you then turn those splines into editable mesh?

I don\'t understand how that works.

I found that box modelling is much easier, especially if you\'re
doing vehicles...

attach the splines to the first one, in order, then check the modifier stack for "surface" I believe that\'s how you do it...

Like I said, I prefer to box model everything...
