Anyone having problems with their PS2 controllers?
« on: August 15, 2003, 05:17:59 PM »
Is anyone here having problems with their PS2 hand controllers?
Both mine are totally fücked up.

Let me explain the problem.
If I play a game that has dual-shock features the controller somehow presses certain buttons which I’m not even touching.

Like in Baldurs Gate, if the controller shakes when I\'m attacking a enemy, my character jumps, changes weapon and changes spell (the controller is "pressing" Circle and one of the D-pad buttons.), or in MoH Frontline, if I’m firing a weapon the controller presses Circle, D-pad and L1 resulting in the character laying down, zooming in and changing weapon.. Same thing in almost every game.

EXTREMELY ANNOYING.

If I disable the DS feature it works fine.

This first happened to my older controller, then gradually I started noticing it with the other one as well.

I have tried taking them apart and cleaning them. It works about 50% of the time.. But after a month or so the problem returns.

Anyone have a clue what’s going on, and possibly a way to fix it?
Its not the controller ports as both controllers have this problem no matter in which port I connect them.

This never happened with my PSX controllers

And I thought i was the only one. As much as i hate to admit it, the DS2 is definately not as reliable as the DS or even the original ps controller. I have the same problem with 2/3 of my controllers from time to time and its friggin annoying. Especially when I am in the middle of GT3. I have no idea what the hell is wrong with these things but i know that i dont feel like buying another 2 controllers.

I\'ve only had similar troubles sometimes when playing Frequency. It\'s pretty weird, though, because the "phantom" button presses come in time with the beat, but it\'s always the circle button bashing itself... Mighty odd. The problem\'s gone when I unplug/replug the controller, just like with the Logitech wheel.

I am still on my original controller, nearly 3 years and no problems at all. I have dropped it,stood on it and given it all sorts of punishment. It is the official sony one though, 3rd party ones tend to be much more fragile.

Hmm weird.. Might have something to do with the pressure-sensitivity.

I’m going to take mine apart again and give it a nice little alcohol bath.. If that doesn’t fix it (or break it), I’m going to SMASH it and buy a new one

my freind had this problem recently, he unscrewd the controller and took everything ut then put it back together and it worked fine, maybe somethings jammed between a button and the pressure pad thing =]

I got some T-röd (Etanol) and cleaned it out (cleaned the rubber thingy that connects to the circuit, and cleaned the circuit itself). Now it works fine again. :)

No i took mine apart fully. I could have it all back together except for the damn cable that connects to the bottom of the cd drive. Its much too short for me to be able to blindly get it in there. Its ok. It was my old (broken) launch one anyway.

I think it\'s just the insides getting used and knackered, my dual shock used to turn off if I hit another car/wall etc....

I worked out that it was a certain type of vibe that caused it, I never managed to fix a pad though, they go back together OK but never seem any more reliable.

I have dropped it a few times sure.. Once I slammed it into the floor because it didn’t respond.. :shy:
But both controllers acting up like this, what are the odds?

I suspect the same thing.

Do what I did, buy Ethanol and clean the parts that connects to the thin "plastic" circuit.
My controller works fine now.
