About mp3
« on: August 28, 2003, 03:00:56 AM »
I\'m thinking on buying a mp3 player. But i want anything more. I\'ve seen models and such and I would like to get some hdd type model (not flash) with radio incorporated. With this kinda models you\'ve high capacity of storage and furthermore they can work as external hdd\'s for your PC.

I like the MPIO HD100, with radio and 20gb of storage. What do u think? Is it a good purchase? It\'s about €300.

And another thing. Taking into account that i\'ll have to convert my cd\'s to mp3... what program is the best to convert wav to mp3? I need a good program, quality above all. Which one do u use?

Thanx dudes.

well that does seem like a nice player, i would suggest the creative jukebox zen 20Gb or jukebox 2 10Gb but the prob is that they dont have a radio built in.

to encode mp3s, lame mp3 encoder is by far the most popular, its somewhat slow compared to other encoders but it gives the best quality.

DAMN YOU TYRANT. What the ****ing program is that? After installing the lame conversor strange problems appeared. Every track I downloaded after installing this software were corrupted. Cratches, heavy sounds, bad sounds... unable to hear that.

I asked for help to fastson who was online. I sent him the files and he had the same problem, the same corruption problems. I reinstalled kazaa and the problems were on. So I uninstall the lame conversor and now the tracks are okay. Not the corrupted, because there may be any kinda codec conflict with this program and when kazaa wrote the files, they were automatically corrupted.

Be careful with this program dudes. I\'ll try another one. :p

I recommend you try OGG vorbis, it\'s compression scheme is superiour to the out-dated lame.

192kbs lame mp3 can be encoded with vorbis at around 110kb/s

There is no loss in sound quality with vorbis, matter of fact many audiophiles have adopted OGG vorbis, as they swear it sounds better.

Anyhow that\'s just my 2 cents

oh dude i\'m really sorry that that happened i\'ve tried the prog for quite a while and had no probs btw are u sure u didnt download the unstable version of the prog, because their are a number of versions of this prog theirs the alpa ver., beta vers., and theirs one version a new one i think which is particularly unstable.

and btw spudz i sure as hell did\'nt do it on purpose, i based my suggestion on my experience with the prog.

anyways sorry again Adan.

I use LAME 192kbps VBR via Razorlame when I need to encode.  I do hear a difference, but I always keep the WAV on my HD too since I can spare the extra space.

pS- Audiophiles don\'t use compression. :P

therefore audiophiles don\'t use mp3 players. ;)

I\'m not an audiophile but I use a Discman with an external amp (META 42 based) for plane trips.  I also use a pair of Sennheiser HD-280s so I fear the weak internal amp within those tiny mp3 players couldn\'t power a pair of decent cans.  Something to think about if you\'re into sound quality...
