Underworld
« on: September 20, 2003, 07:34:52 PM »
absolutely loved it!

I\'m a fan of vampires, werewolves, and the like so it was natural for me to want to see Underworld.  I really didn\'t expect it to do so well though:)

I love Anne Rice\'s vampire chronicles for their depth and history, then I enjoy films like Blade that pack in the action.  Anyone who\'s taken a liking to Anne Rice can tell you her detailed worlds are wonderful but slow to build...then anyone who has seen Blade know it\'s about as deep as a kiddie pool.

Underworld created a sense of history and kept building on it through out the movie.  The characters have excellent depth, the story has plot twists, and the gothic atmosphere is as consistent as it is sexy.

I only have one concern:

[sp]
Why did kraven shoot lycian(sp?)?

You gather enough to know they want an alliance between vampires and lyken.  kraven obviously had an alterior motive but I can\'t figure one out.

Michael was Lycian\'s answer to creating a hybrid species.  Kraven wants Seline but why he\'s so determined is not clear, I can only guess he hates Michael because he has Seline\'s affection???
[/sp]

Can\'t wait for sequel:D

I enjoyed it.  It wasn\'t perfect, but what is?  Good casting for the most part, and the story was just a little more complex than I expected, which was refreshing.  No need to add this, but I will anyway:  Kate Beckinsale is the hotness.  Hot hot hotness.  :)  So perfect.  I love watching her pull that pisol-fu stuff.  I wish they\'d put some more martial arts into it, and it would have been unbelievable.

Did anyone see the variety of trailers running before the film?

Resident Evil Apocalypse - (Teaser trailer)  Very very cool trailer.  It was so much like a commercial, I was taken in for a few seconds.  Then as soon as I saw the blue vial, I knew what it was.  The doberman sealed the deal.  This was a very good trailer for fans of the first movie.

Alien: The Director\'s Cut rerelease trailer.  Holy crap, it was so cool to see a trailer for this film again.  It was not bad for the most part, except the editors were overindulgent in putting in that stupid shock ending like many other modern trailers have.  The ORIGINAL Alien trailer from 1979 was and is still one of the best of all time.  They should have used a slightly modified version of that.  This is the NEW trailer:

Here\'s a link to the ORIGINAL trailer (25 megs):  SO much better.  It has a classy, quiet ending.  Just the title, with a shot of the Nostromo cruising past the planet.  Oh it gives me chills watching it again.  This is the trailer that scared the crap out of me as a child:

NEW Kill Bill trailer!!!  Damn, this one is better than the last teaser.  I am looking forward to this film more than any other this year.  This film WILL kick ass.  Silly Rabbit.

YES!! Resident Evil: Apocalypse looks very cool.

I actually thought it was a comerercial and got pissed thinking that the commercials were mixed in with the previews now.  Then I saw the blue vial...I didn\'t recognize it at first, next I heard Umbrella and got a huge smile on my face.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre looks scary...that house you see in movie, that\'s like 5 miles from my house.  They were filming like a year or two ago...almost forgot about it.

Gothika also looks interesting.  Creepy:)

Core!!  did you even look at my question?!?!?!?

[sp]Lemme get this straight about Marcus. He fathered two human children. Those children are decendants of Michael. Correct? That\'s why Lucean wanted to "turn" him. But did he intend to have Kraven bite Michael until Selena shook things up?

What did Lucean benefit from in his "alleged" death by Kraven? He went underground for centuries and allowed his race to be decimated by Kraven\'s coven. How is that a good plan? I must have missed something. (not being critical here)

Alicia, the Elder vampire assassinated in the train, she was weak. I thought all Elders were strong, their strongest was Viktor (now dead). She actually looked scared. I expected a good battle there.

Again, I didn\'t get everything from Marcus\' history. What was his story with humans again? Viktor seemed disgusted when he talked about it. His interaction with humans?

Michael is a descendant of those children.  To create the hybrid they need the blood of an elder (Amelia).

Kraven was just a way for the werewolves to get into the awakening ceremony and I assume it was to take down Markus who was supposed to have been awakened.

I\'m just guessing that Lucian wanted the alleged death so Viktor would stop hunting him.  Also remember that lykens\' were slaves to vampires back then...they were weaker.  In the beginning Seline explained how the lykens had evovled.

I don\'t remember Viktor talking about Markus other than saying it was Markus\' turn to rule.  I wouldn\'t put much thought into it...there\'s obviously going to be a sequel to anwser those questions.

Agree\'s with Lic on this, and I am a vampire whore. This coming from someone that can watch the lost boys just because there are vampires in it.

Seriously LIC, how can you be bored by Kate Beckinsale in latex?  Are you sure you didn\'t see Seabiscuit by accident?  I would be fascinated watching her read a telephone book.

Yeah, Kate was hot - whoopie do. Does this make a good movie? No. Nothing else in that movie was worth notin\'. Terrible CG / boring gun-fights / rip-off\'s of every decent gothic movie. Hell, they even named the main character Michael Corvin, which is the name of the main character in the third Crow movie.
