From the October issue of CAR pg 130

Article about Kazunori Yamauchi and GT4

Why isn\'t Ferrari in the game?
Their licence fees are extremely high - exceeding by far the average the we handle with other manufacturers.  Also Gran Turismo is targeted more towards cars that are more realistic to buy.

Thats a load of crap concerning how much money it would cost. I mean, EA has been able to get the licenses for all the Italian and Euro exotics for years now, and its not like Polyphony doesn\'t have a hefty back account.

The amount of money they must make in royalites alone for the GT series would be huge, not to mention the fact that they are backed by SONY. If they dont have enough money, then I dont know who would.

Its just an excuse. If they weren\'t the types of cars they want, then why are there Zonda\'s, TVR\'s etc???

Uhm when you consider how many car manufacturers there are in the game it\'s very understandable that they can\'t afford it when one car maker wants way too much. It\'s not like other games which only features 3-4 manufacturers or maybe only 1, GT4 has dusins. So money definitely is an issue when they need licenses for 4-500 cars.

Also it would send the wrong signal to the other manufacturers that they\'re licensing. Hypothetically speaking this could mean that the other manufacturers could demand more the next time after seeing that Ferrari got more

Its not really a valid arguement IMO. Its basically free publicity. If I was a car manufacturer, I would be dieing to get my products into a game as widely known and popular as the GT series. How many people have fallen in love with a car they never knew existed before playing GT?

I remember I fell in love with the Mitsubishi FTO when I got the first GT. Now I own one.

Hell yeah racer, who in their right mind wouldn\'t want their car in gt4, the GT series is perfect and is well known over the world. And why in the hell is ferrari in pgr2, that stupid arcade racer. I would to see how a 355, or a F50 handles on the Fuji track or the NYC track. Since the cars in gt4 will handle like real life cars I want to see so bad how a ferrari, any ferrari handles. And the ferrari president said he wants his company to featured in a GT game.

Kazunori Yamauchi about Ferrari:

Do you really think a manufacturer like Ferrari feels they could boost their sales by putting their cars into a videogame? They have their licence just like all the other ones too.

It\'s not like their cars are dirt cheap and little boys can fall in love with them and buy one the next day. People that buy Ferrari\'s know why.

Yeah, it\'s a conscious choice by Ferrari to have high licensing fees just like their cars are very expensive. Their cars are meant to be luxurious and exclusive. So high licensing fees are just part of that image that they\'re trying to sell.

Thats a load of crap. They want to uphold an image to those people even in a videogame? Thats pathetic. Like all the children or whoever buys the game is going to think that a ferrari is any easier to obtain just because its in a game. I mean hell id give it out for dirt cheap. If its not going to benefit them its definately not going to harm them, (unless they are afraid that their cars cant stack up against the others which is insane).

I honestly dont know what to make of all of it. Its just plain dumb.

Yeah I agree with you. I think it\'s silly too but I think the whole damage issue is even more silly. Why don\'t the car manufacturers allow damage, it\'s just insane not to. Do they actually believe they\'ll sell less cars if damage was shown on them like it would in real life if you crashed or ran into something? I just don\'t get it.
