Gran Turismo - Manual or Auto.

I\'m just wondering how many people miss half the fun by using auto-gears. Also, of the people that use manual, how many get on with the paddle system? I personally hate it as all I want my left hand to do whilst driving is steer, R1 and R2 are my up and down. It may seem like a pointless thread but I have a curious mind, humour me!

It\'s worth getting to know your enemy for on-line gaming, if I ever manage to sort it out.

I stick to auto gears, all my cars are tuned to the max so I need auto gears so I can concentrate on steering and braking!

You ought to try the manual, a friend of mine came round the other day while I was playing and wanted a few laps in the Supra and then proceeded to play with manual gears, he was off the track for the first few laps but then just got faster and faster. I get annoyed at not being able to brake properly also, I like to paste the engine to the redline on downshifts.

Manual. You have more control of your speeed. After some plays I noticed that its easier to steer your car on hard turns than auto

For the gearing I use, manual always seems to go one gear too high in tight corners, almost like the game is playing it safe with the revs. I prefer to decide myself, sometimes I\'ll have a bad or good corner and will reach the next at a different speed, gear selection is all-important.

manual all the way.  I too downshit several gears going into tight turns... it helps a lot with keeping your car under control.

Auto for me as well. I know manual would yield faster times but my fingers seem retarded enough without the added challenge. I\'d be all over a mock clutch pedal and stick though.

Are you thinking of big bit of plastic like Steel Battallion for driving controls?

I use auto also I would have to probably devote some time to getting used to manual controls.

When driving with the wheel = Manual
When driving with the controller = Auto

You get much better track times with Manual gear :)

I use manual with or w/o the wheel. I just have more control, especially when im drifting. Drifting in auto its just plain dumb if you are 1) Doing it correctly or 2) Doing more advanced techniques. Auto only when im 1/2 asleep, or on other rare occasions.

I hope to see drift competitions on-line. That would make my day
