I feel like I\'m taking crazy pills!

Is it just me or is the format for overtime games in the NFL extremely stupid?...


I mean... first team to score wins and the team who gets the ball first is determined by a measly coin toss?

seems so stupid to me that I dont know how that rule ever even got considered for the game nevermind implemented into it...

Each team should get one possession and if it is still tied after that then each team revieves another possession until the game is settled. (Like the CFL)

Anyways it is pretty weak, however it gives your chance for your defense to go out there and win the game for you.

I agree about OT rules, yet I still am going to close this thread

It should just be first touchdown. Anyone can kick a FG from 50 yards away.

You are missing the point.

The team who scores first wins.  The team who gets the ball first is decided by a coin toss.

each team has a 50% chance to get the ball, and 50/50 to 2 teams is even. But i get what ur saying. The only way i could maybe see (that is completely fair for both teams) is that a team has to start from the 15 and has 4 plays to get a touchdown, but that could take eternity and would get boring after a while.

If you wanna play a game of luck go play cards or something...


A football game should not be decided by something so luck orientated as a coin toss considering how much time and sacrifice the players of put in.

only other way i can imagine is to let them play it out like basketball. but football is not set up to be played in that manner,as we\'ve seen in a couple of the playoff games going double ot. by that time you run the risk of star players getting hurt (fatigued/tired etc). the way it\'s set up now i figure is the best formula

play it like college football, if one team scores the other team has one possesion to either match their score or top it.  Example; if team A scores with a FG than team B has one possesion to either Kick a FG and keep playing or score a TD and win.

Thats the best/correct way... as I mentioned in my first post.

In that situation, your defense is supposed to be good enough to atleast get you the ball back...

Exactly.  And I have to say again.  Off the top of my head, haven\'t there already been a couple OT games this playoffs and haven\'t they all gone to the LOSER of the coin toss?

DIdn\'t Green Bay just lose?  How about Seattle last week?  

I just don\'t get what you are bitching about.  IF an offense starts at the 20 they have 50 yards till they are in even a remotely decent field goal position.  If your defense can\'t hold the team from scoring with a 50 yard pad then what\'s the problem with getting a loss?
