I modded my theater

No spoilers/racing stripes on the TV or anything.  My bro is moving so he took all of his Ikea with him.  Originally the theater looked like this.

Now the neat little end tables are gone so I finally broke down and bought a VESA lcd arm for the monitor.  The ones I wanted are around $200 but luckily some guy on ebay just posted his used one for a BIN price of $30.  Here\'s the result:

So yea, I was just proud of my nerdiness and wanted to show how much Americans work just to be so lazy. :nerd:  In my dream theater I want to have 3 of these babies hooked up.  Or maybe it would just be ideal to go for laptops. :p

comments on your hometheater setup:

It looks nice, I guess.  It look cool how you install your LCD arm to your LCD.  From the look of it, my guess is the TV is calibrated, isn\'t it?  Beside that, i am not really good at judging stuff except the floor black and white tiles look bland and boring.  What kind of receiver is that? i mean the brand.  My  only suggestion is when you have the money, and if you are into sound, go buy two good front speakers like big ones.  Also, what kind of dvd player are you using to watch movie?  It\'s straight out of xbox or ps2?  Either way, i don\'t think its necessary to try a good dvd player since your tv is 480i, not hd.  But its cool, wait till some years when hdtv price comes down and performance and features improve more.  Sorry for my weird comments.

"go buy two good front speakers like big ones."
- I guess bigger means better.  Hahaha...  ALrighty..

There are HD sets under a grand.  At what point are people going to stop saying they are expensive?

Oh yeah, my comments..  Your room is a mess.  Clean up!!!  ;)

Like Vid said - you can get a good HD set for under a grand. Hell, a Panasonic 51 inch WS HDTV is right around 2,000. That\'s not bad at all.

As for the ..

I\'m in the process of tearing down the closet in my entertainment room. Tearing it down and upgrading my TV to a 51 or 57, un-decided, along with a new gear rack. I\'ve got so many DVDS/ CDS / GADGETS in this room that there is no way I\'ll fit a bigger TV in without getting rid of the closet (which I don\'t use). After that, I will probably go ahead and put a sofa in here, instead of this recliner. Eventually, would like to get a laptop, that way I can do away with the computer desk and what not..

Oh and get a mini-fridge. You won\'t believe how often mine has saved my life. If it wasn\'t for it, I\'d have to pause and walk into the kitchen! Scarey times, indeed.

well, its just that most of those hdtvs only have 1 digital connection like only 1 DVI or HDMI.  I mean, seriously, can\'t they just add another one.  I believe it probably only cost them like $5 bucks more to add another digital connection, but no.  So far, most tv i see still only have 1.  As a consumer, we want to hook pretty much like at least two HD sources via DVI/hdmi.  Since tv doesn\'t included HD tuner, we need like one for HD Tuner and 1 for HD-DVD player.  Like my tv for instancd, too many analog connections that i won\'t be using.  I only hook up 1 analog connection for VCR, but that\'s about it.  the other remaining can disappear for all i care.  I just wanted extra DVI, but i know its gonna cost me for a switcher.

You still remember Bose story, hmmm....
Then THX, forget about two big loudspeakers.  You setup is fine.  Just as long its not Bose.

You also need some classic movie posters framed and on the wall...

Recommended one\'s:

\'The Bride of FrankenStein\'

\'Blade Runner\'

\'Kill Bill\' (not classic, but still)

\'Superman\'

\' Dawn of the Dead\'

You know, the usuals.

I\'m actually moving too so no use in sprucing the palce up.  It\'s an old budget theater fit for a full-time student, the most expensive component is the HTPC.  The TV + audio was the best you could get with under $2k back in 2000.

I\'m through with direct view, I\'m going projector from now on.  HTPC\'s are perfect for this, they\'ll scale anything to the native resolution of the projector for 1:1 pixel mapping.  The ones I want are HD and around $2k but I think I will be going with the more modest ones for about $1300.  Next speakers will be B&W 600 series with outlaw components, sub prolly an SVS or Hsu.  So yea I\'ve been doing more dreaming than job hunting. :o

Surprisingly enough I don\'t watch as many movies as I used to, which is probably why my money shifted over to the PC and car audio.  Can\'t have it all I guess. :p  But this LCD arm is "da bomb!"

Well, I just had my closet torn out about an hour ago, which freed up about six feet or more. Room looks a lot more spacious. Just need to do something about the area where the closet was (missing carpet in a spot).  BRING ON THE NEW TV!

Very few TVs have more than one DVI input.  You can always get a DVI splitter.  More and more will be coming out for more inputs and infra red switching.

you know any cheap DVI splitter or switcher or whatever?  I wonder how much its cost.  If it\'s cheap, i may buy one when in need.
