Alright, how many here have a home theater or are working on one? If so - list your equipment . Keep in mind, an HT doesn\'t have to be fancy.

:)

I\'m currently re-doing mine..

Hitachi 53, HDTV WS, replaced my old Sony 41.

Cyberhome 402 for region free playing, runnin component.

Pioneer 5-disc DVD changer with built in 5.1 / DTS Receiver.

Sony CDP-CX825 200 Disc Cd Changer (given to me by Capcom

Dish Sattelite

I plan on re-doing it over the course of the next few months..

Replacing the Pioneer DVD/ Receiver with a dedicated AV Receiver, looking at a Harman Kardon AVR 430 which supports 7.1 and many other things.

Also replacing the Pioneer due to the fact the DVD Player part does not support component. Not sure what I am replacing it with, but I need a new player for my new TV.

Then, when my CC Gift Card comes in, I\'ll pick up a Replay TV and some new speakers / new sub.

After all that or in bewteen some of those purhases, a DVD-R / Couch / Movie Posters with frames.

I just have a 32 or 36 inch TV hooked up to a surround sound system and DVD player. Sounds and looks sweet though :) If I ever get rich, I want to invest alot into home theater sytems.

You don\'t need to be rich, unless you want to go the way of most the guy\'s over at http://www.avsforum.com, those guy\'s are dedicated! A lot of threads on that forum are about people building a house and factoring in the cost of a big dedicated HT into the loan, which if I ever build a house, is how I\'ll do it.

No matter how much money you put in though, it won\'t be like in the theaters exactly (unless your so rich you build your own theater). I love going to see movies more for the experience. Get that soggy, fatty popcorn, have some 500 pound guy with a fro sit in front of me, have the sticky floors and see it on a screen and stuff. Just not the same when you sit on the couch looking at a projector. I wish I owned my own movie theater :(

How much is your budget? If you go for a front projector, you\'re going to spend quite abit of money. Personally, my first thing would be a nice big widescreen RPTV ready for a HD Receiver. After that, find you a solid DVD player that supports progressive scan / component and a couple other things.. Then, save up for a good reciever and speakers..Then the sub....It goes on and on.

my pc has a 5.1 DD system.. works great for gaming and dvds. sub makes the floor and windows shake wooo..
My tv is just stereo and i\'m using a stereo reciever with 2 120watt speakers.. Which does the job. In all i\'m happy with what i have. Till i get my own place, then things will change...... :bounce2:

Depends on what you want. Plasma still has a lot of issues, price being one of them. You can get a TV like mine for around $2,000, which isn\'t really all that bad for a good RPTV /HD / Widescreen.

When building a system you kind of need to judge how long it will take you to build the system.

If you have a lengthy build, I would buy the stereo and speakers first.  Speakers don\'t become obsolete and stereos take a long long time.

Then I would go to the TV.

My home theater is weak now, but next house we get will have a dedicated room with clean power.  Then I will have a mack daddy setup.

Right now I have:

56" DLP Rear projection.

Yamaha receiver.  100/channel  This is 6 years old and ready for a change.  Although it\'s hard to justify until I get new speakers.

Infinity speakers.  Not sure of the model number.  I don\'t really like them.  They were bad ass in the day, but they are about 15 years old.

Boston Accoustics Subwoofer.  1000 watt little booger will shake the neighbor\'s plants.

High Definition OTA receiver (Samsung)
High Definition Direct TV/OTA receiver (RCA)
Ultimate TV (Just like the Tivo, only better (I think))
Soon to be getting HDTiVo..  FINALLY!!!!

DVD player is pretty crappy.  It\'s one from when they first came out.  I am waiting on the D3.

New leather sectional and a very commfy new leather recliner..  :thepimp:

I also have a front projection CRT unit that is sitting in storage.  Looked fantastic before I took it down.  My house just isn\'t designed for it and I didn\'t like it sitting in the midle of the room.  Next house will be built for it.  I had it at 110" screen.  Very nice.  I may sell it to spudz for $5995 if I ever get the check in the mail.
I wear a necklace now because I like to know when I\'m upside down.

-61" RCA HDTV built in receiver
-I have polkaudio surround sound, not that great.
-Toshiba DVD player, kinda old but its pretty good.
-An Onkyo AV Receiver TX-DS494
-Nice leather sectional

I need to get TiVo and maybe some better surround sound, I was thinking about doing the movie poster thing too.
I have no signature...I rule.
