anybody here collect them? i haven\'t bought any in years until recently,..the real last set of comics i bought was the x-men with the story line "the age of apacolypse" which was truly a great story line & the artwork for the uncanny x-men back then was stellar.

i loved the wildcats when jim lee used to draw them and the early witchblade comics.

recently i just picked up the x-men book titled "new x-men" with mark sylvestri (spell) drawing the book..i like his artwork as well, i loved his work on cyber force when he used to draw them.

i also just picked up the new secret wars comic by marvel..it seems it\'s different than the first secret wars book they put out years ago.,but the book is painted..& it\'s incredible!..i know you have to have skills to draw in the comic world, but to do painted work is just so much harder...i forgot the name of the artist but his work is stunning.

anyway just wanted to know if any of you cats in here collect..i go through a phaze where i buy a bunch then i just stop..i\'am going to follow this new secret wars & mark sylvestri\'s x-man tho.

if you two clowns (theomen included ;) ) are going to say that then you shouldn\'t even be playin\' video games..some comics can have a mature theme just as much as some of those mature video games..in the same aspect there are some comics that cater to the younger generation. the same can be said about video games.

video games & comics go hand in hand so for you to make that statement is kinda ignorant. ;)

For some reason I got into X-men cards in the late 90\'s then just stopped.  I wound up with a very valuable Spiderman hologram card but my friend tricked me and traded some cheapy card for it.

I did it mostly because it was cool artwork.

what i mean is that in general both comics & video games are seen as a kid novelty,..video games have come along way since the atari 2600 & have gotten a very small amount of respect,..comics too..back in the day comics were all happy go-lucky,.. good -guy defeats the bad guy...you\'ve never seen scantily clad women back then..& now some have some very mature themes to them. i\'m just tryin\' to point out that both mediums have come a long way.

When I was much younger, I used to collect a ton of comics and never really took care of them and as I got older, I stopped collecting and stopped bothering not so much because comics "weren\'t cool" -- and you\'re an idiot if you stop reading anything because it\'s not the "cool" thing to do, but moreso because the medium at the time was in a huge slump with stories and art.  There just wasn\'t anything good being put on shelves and prices were jacking up on a monthly basis because the art was more prized then the story and people were buying to collect rather then to read and that\'s a waste in my opinion.

This past summer however, I went ahead and decided to post in some comic book threads on another forum (GAF) and found that a lot of people on there actually have a great deal of respect for the medium and they pointed me in the right direction for what\'s great, what to avoid, and what to look into.  Since then, I\'ve picked up so many great stories that I\'ve been able to get Rya, her sister, and two of our good friends into reading them almost religiously.  There\'s just so much really good stuff out there that it\'s sad that plenty of them are being ignored.

I even figured with the influx of comic book based films that the medium would take off once again, but I suppose with the few culturally tainted out there, it\'s still not the "cool" thing to do and that\'s pretty dissapointing.  Even Road to Perdition came from a comic book wether you realize it or not and there are plenty of other books with stories and characters just as or more intriguing then that.

Anyways, here\'s what I currently read --

Y The Last Man - About the sudden unexplained death of every last y-chromosomed being on the planet except for one human named Yorrick and his Colobus monkey, Ampersand.  Intriguing because it examines the world as a whole and its reaction to such a crisis.
Batman
Detective Comics
The Flash
The Pulse - The Dialy Bugle is losing readership by the day and somehow, it needs to keep up with the times give the people what they want, coverage on superheroes by superheroes.
Daredevil
Ultimate Spider-Man
Ultimate X-Men
Ultimates
Fables - A catastrophic event causes the make-believe world of Snow White, Beauty and the Beast and several others to leave their own realm and come, in secret, to the living world of man where they must secretly live in New York as regular human beings with a few surprises here and there.
4 - What if super heroes, like anyone else, needed jobs too?  That\'s what this story explores as the Fantastic Four are now evicted from their homes and forced out onto the streets to be productive citizens, not just productive super heroes.
Fantastic Four
Gotham Central
The Sandman - A series of dream-like mature stories fit for any reader interested in the medium.  It\'s won several awards for it\'s take on many different aspects of society and the human psyche.
Batman\\Superman
Hellboy
Don\'t you ever touch my cape.

I used to collect comics in the 70\'s. I had Blade, The Wolfman, Dracula and the usual cast (Batman, Fantastic Four, Spiderman etc).

I even had some old Cowboys and Indian type comics I found that dated from the 60\'s. I can\'t recall how I acquired them. Probably through trading. I stopped collecting comics before the start of the 80s.

Until "Return of the Dark Knight" broke all the traditional comic books rules in 1986. Man, I bought those series like a drug addict! I sold them 10 years later at about $50 a piece. :)

Now I have nothing left....except that old box from the 70\'s. Have no idea what\'s it there. Probably all rotten from insects and whatnot.

from about 78-86 I collected comics I still have them all in nice little plastic protectors and all are in mint condition. I have:

Web of Spiderman (issue number 1-80)
The amazing Spiderman (issues unknown)
Peter Parker is Spiderman or something like that.

Also I have some GI Joe and Teen Titans during those years and the whole series of Marvel Universe wich was like a dictionary of all the marvel superheros about 12 issues.

my favorite item was a grapic novel I got in about 85.

I haven\'t done much in the comic realm since 1995, when I was.. eheh.. 11.

I have a lot of Ghost Rider comics, including the entire 23-issue series of Ghost Rider and Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance which kicked ass up until issue 13 and went slowly downhill from there.

Right now I\'m reading Watchmen and I\'m enjoying it a lot.

I stopped collecting and reading comics when I hit 13 in the late 80\'s,still got them all though.
These are what I have in my collection:

Spiderman (Amazing,spectacular and web)
Wolverine
X-men
Punisher

But my favourite comic is my What if.... Kraven the hunter had killed Spiderman.
He digs his coffin up and starts eating Spiderman\'s corpse.

Edit:Todd Mcfarlane (sp?) was my favourite artist. No one could draw Spiderman like him.
