its not dont get close..thats just on a video game and not on the album. the songs called pulse of the maggots and is way better. It probably will take getting used to for some people who like slipknot but i liked it the first time i heard it

I find it humorous to read all the bands you people claim to be teased about.  They are all basically modern rock; the posters here seem to have few interests in other music.

If you listened to a wider breadth of music, I\'m sure you would lose all your narrow minded friends.  I enjoy pretty much every musical style in one form or another.  You people should listen to

eh..i stopped catagorizing metal since theres so many different kinds. Some people dont see Opeth as death metal (in san diego at least) while you do, some people see slipknot as nu-metal and i dont and iv listened to them since 7th grade and so on..so i dont know what genre slipknot falls into, all i know is that its not nu metal since only 2 er so of their songs have rap in them out of the 3 albums..since reporters got to interview and listen to the songs and they said there was no rap in the new album.

canu specify what nu-metal is? maybe they are and im not seeing it but i thought nu-metal was rap rock kind of stuff. Is it the guitars? or just because they stand out as a gimic with more members than a usual band and have the masks. Anyone who said they are nu-metal has never specified why..i think people just see them as one of those poser bands because they arent like all the death metal bands out there..which if u only like them then ur a real metal head...seeing as slipknot has maybe one radio-friendly song an album (not sure about the new one)

PS..I already admitted they give metal a bad name to mainstream people..whiich is why i dont like the guitarist because he goes out of his way to sound all anti-religious. And also one of the percussionists because he tries to make them sound like the craziest band to ever exist. And they also admitted the pentagrams were for show.

I have yet to hear a power chord in any Opeth song.  Sorry, but they are modern rock - not metal.  I guess by giving it a metal label it makes it more "cool" :rolleyes:

I also dare anyone here to say all country music does not suck and mean it.  That crap is the worst.  If I go to hell that $hit will be piped in 24/7.

Nobody will ever be able to fully agree on what is what. Sometimes it pisses me off when people try to make so many different sub categories of rock/metal etc. and then bitch at other people for not being able to know them all or who is who. Its as if they are trying to make an excuse to bitch at people and get angry for no good reason.

I can basically tell everything apart and somethings arent even that far apart that it makes me sick to even think about the people who tried to make them different "sub-genres." F***ing pathetic.

Um, what exactly have you heard by Opeth?  Opeth is definitely metal.  I don\'t think they\'re even close to being anything but metal, I don\'t understand how you\'d classify them as something else.  I\'d be really curious as to what it is that you\'ve heard of theirs that makes you think they\'re modern rock and not metal.  And yes, they do use power chords.  They just don\'t overuse them like a lot of bands do.

Blackwater Park - it sucks.

I am not alone in thinking Opeth isn\'t metal.

"I\'m a newcomer to Opeth. About two or three months ago I had never heard the band (but of course I had heard OF them.) Well after resisting for a while I decided to give it a try, and Blackwater Park is my first Opeth album. Opeth is one of those band that\'s pretty much unclassifiable. Reading interviews, I can see that their roots are in Death Metal, but when I listen to this, I hear a lot of other "sounds" that sometimes border between rock and metal, with some classical thrown in and there. There\'s a mix of Death and clean vocals in this as well. Add to this the fact that the songs are in the 6-12 minutes range (except for a small instrumental interlude), with the opening song clocking over 10 minutes, quite unusual. I won\'t go as far as calling this "Opeth Metal", but this band\'s sound sure is unique and I don\'t think anyone will really want to attempt to put them in a specific category. Let\'s just say they\'re Opeth and leave it at that.

While Opeth\'s root may be in Death Metal, Blackwater Park is in no way a "brutal" album - at least not to my ears! I find it pretty relaxing actually (sometimes a little TOO relaxing - hehe.)"

What is with all of these sub genre\'s anyway?  It is getting a bit ridiculous.  To classify Opeth as metal has to be the biggest joke - shockwaves have you actually heard real metal?  By your line of thinking I suppose Coldplay should be classified as some sort of metal as well.

Want the louder stuff? Check out \'Morning Rise\' and other earlier material. Hell, if you want, check out \'Deliverance\'. Those albums are a lot more metal.

Exactly.  You can\'t classify them by one album.  For example, if you heard just Damnation and tried to classify them, you\'d put them in a totally different category than if you heard just Morningrise and tried to classify them.  I\'d call them Progressive Death Metal, because they sometimes are more progressive metal, and sometimes more death metal, depending on the song and album.

And what would you consider real metal?  Chances are I would like it (Unless it\'s Superjoint Ritual )

Old Maiden, Priest, Motorhead, Slayer, Metallica, Cannibal Corpse, Sabbath, AC/DC, etc...

I don\'t only like metal though - I like some classic rock, new wave, old hardcore like Minor Threat, etc...

The only music I really hate is country.  I don\'t like rap that much, but old stuff by Public Enemy is ok.
