Well, I like all of that as well.  No reason to think I wouldn\'t.  In fact, I know I\'ve talked about some of those bands previously on these boards.  

I just think it is unfair to judge Opeth as you have.  The thing about them is that their music is so varied (something that I think just illustrates their talent).  Give an album like Morningrise a listen, and tell me if you think that\'s modern rock .  Personally, I would definitely classify Blackwater Park as metal too, but to each his own.

Hey! I\'m into New Wave as well. Tears For Fears being my all time favorite. Then The Cure, U2 (at the time, they were considered part of the New Wave, although they\'ve been around longer than that), Depeche Mode, Berlin

Now, all i listen to is CDs of classic rock and for the radio, some alternative and progressive stuff.

Some great country guitarists kick ass.  To say all country is shit is remarkably short sighted.  True, most vocal-oriented country music of the current day is pure excrement.  However if you seek out talented country musicians WHO PLAY INSTRUMENTS you will find some of the most awesome and chilling guitar work ever recorded.

Why did rock musicians like Eliot Easton of the Cars and Jimi Page of LZ and Roger McGuinn of The Byrds sneak country guitar sounds into their songs?  Because Country is a foundation of Rock, and thus a foundation of Metal.  You cannot ignore it.  It still kicks ass.

BTW some Bluegrass musicians can kick any metal guitarist\'s ass with their little toe.  

Man, country sucks.

Metal guitarists, and some rock guitarists are the real guitarists.
Guitars should be for making music, not something you listen to while porking your sister.

I wouldnt totally say that. There are a lot of blues or folk-ish guitarists who can play damn well. Especially those that play guitars with at least 12 strings. Its kinda crazy really. Even foreign acoustic guitarists can do a lot more than a lot of "metal" guitarists. Joe Satriani and Vai are pretty good. I dont know what you would consider them, but I like Sat\'s music better.

But yeah. Basically rock type guitarists are the best for obvious reasons.

Well with the exception of a lot of people who just like to play fast cords etc. Thats not good, thats just having a fast wrist. Fast soloists are much greater players.

I appreciate Nicon\'s partial support for my statement, but really... to you Spudz and everyone else:  If you\'re not a guitar player, you\'re really not qualified to say "rock guitarists are the real guitarists."  You don\'t know shit.  

Rock guitarists play one lead line at a time.  Try playing two or three melodies simultaneously, or a chord structure and a melody simultaneously.  Try doing it with your fingers instead of a pick.  Try doing it at the SPEED that country and bluegrass musicians do.  Most rock and metal guitarists sadly lack the musicianship that is considered basic and fundamental in the Country / Bluegrass / Folk Fingerstyle guitar world.  It\'s a fact, and if you listened to some other varieties of music from time to time you would understand very well.

By rock, I also meant, but forgot to type; blues, jazz, funk, etc.

Country guitarists are just awful.

And Satriani, and Vai are very good. Satriani is better though, imo.

LOL!  Exactly.  

I never said that as musicians they were not talented, but todays country music sucks.  The especially suck and it pretty much sounds all the same.  Believe me I live in the land of "country music" and even the lyrics are almost the identical.  The topics of most songs include:

While I don\'t like country at all I won\'t say there aren\'t some very damned good country guitarists out there, saying that they all suck is just plain stupid.
