whats the dos command

i need to make a .txt list of all the files in a folder but can\'t remember the DOS command to do it.  any help?

dir > *.txt

MM is correct. the > is a dump. Or if you wanted to append it would be >> if memory serves me right.

Soul yours if you put a space in every now and again would do wide format, hit all sub dirs, pause, and list attribs. Not sure how useful this would be to dump into a text file.

Wonders if soul with all his vast experience even knew he could do the dump to a text file. Or better yet dump to a port.:rolleyes:

i miss read what he was asking... i thought he was asking to list all the txt files, not make a list in  txt of all files etc. Why do u think i said incase you have shitloads of txt files  sigh.

HAHA. Just keeping the smartass remarks going souly. I did not know the no space thing though. I have never tried it. Is that somthing back from the dos days that would hold that command, or is that somthing they have added to the newer command sets?

worked fine on normal dos.. pretty sure it did..  I\'ve always used it that way.  So it must have worked lol.

There is probably a reason I did not learn of the sloppy way. It can cause problems further down the road. I can see how it would be useful when you want to get in the habit if not using the spacebar, and saving .005 seconds.

OK wise guy. How do you remotely change the dns on a machine running static?

Edit. That was the first thing that popped in my head that was one step above moron as you like to put it. Or we can get more into unix. Then MM would kill me on those.

Edit again. It is a 2k xp and 2k3 server thing if that helps you in your google search. Every part via command line. I could give you somthing simple such as adding a user via command line to a domain, but any 6th grader knows that one.

With this simple command you can also do almost anything to their ip stack.

probably a nslookup command.. to be honest i don\'t know. Although it wouldn\'t take me long to figure it out, without having to take a course to do it.  either way, networking isn\'t my strong point. Its my brothers.

nslookup is to verify dns for the most part. You can change some things, but it is not the best option.

I will be the first to admit I am rusty in some areas. I have not had to assemble a pc in ages. You on the other hand belittle every chance you get. To tell the truth I think you are a cocky comp-usa repairing fool. cause we know the makes it all a joke and you meant no harm.

Btw the answer I was looking for was the netsh command. I can give you syntax off the top of my head if you like?

Edit. This was a dos command. A new one but one still the same which you are the almighty master of.
