A clon screen
« on: March 28, 2004, 03:11:09 AM »
I was trying yesterday to use my TV as monitor-screen to see movies in it through connecting the PC to TV with composite wire. The truth is that the reult is quite good, but I cannot configure it as a clon screen of my desk, but as a second monitor with expanded desk, which means that I have to carry my window till the second tv.

I\'ve been looking for in mi ATI properties and I cann find that option... anybody knows where is it? I\'ve XP and a Ati Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb with the latest catalyst.

Well, I don\'t own that card, or even a Radeon, so I\'m unfamiliar with the stuff, but I\'ll take a stab at it, from a quick read of it\'s capabilities.

It\'s able to handle three screens, a dual-desktop and a clone on a TV all at once... so it sounds like it\'s dual-desktopping your TV.  Make sure it\'s recognizing that you have an analogue and a TV connection going, that must be in there somwhere.  Once it recognizes that you\'re outputting to a TV, it\'s supposed to have a clone option in the video

desktop -> properties -> settings
Does it show two displays here?  Are they selectable?  Is one a monitor and one a TV?  If they are, are there selectable modes (desktop, clone)?

-> advanced -> Radeon 9800 pro
Look in here if there\'s a menu like "display mode" or "desktop management" menu (these are guesses, mine is set up this way, but it\'s a different company).

Supposedly the diver comes with "easylook" setting technology... a program that\'s supposed to make all this easier on you... is that installed/available?  If so, look around in that for settings help.

Basically, you have to make sure the TV is in "desktop mode", make sure panning is off...  Try to make sure the TV is the secondary device, and look for a "clone mode" in the  desktop -> properties -> settings area....

Sorry if none of that works, but like Isaid, I dont\' have the card, and I can\'t see your setup :(

**EDIT**

Hey-hey!  A quick check on the ATI website found me a page with pictures and stuff of how to set up the monitor as a clone...

the link!

You can see what I was talking abut before in part #6 - do you have two devices available in settings there?  If so, make sure it\'s not "extending my desktop"....  Then check out the actual Displays section, and make sure the clone button is pushed, and that it\'s detecting the TV properly (as a TV, not monitor).
