I have it, and I enjoy it. It is a good football game in it\'s own right I supoose...yet you can add all the bells and whistles you want, but when it comes down to it, gameplay is what keeps you coming back...and that\'s why I must say I am really anticipating this years madden.
In ESPN, It\'s still too easy to run, the quarterbacks are ALL unrealistically fast (****ing Jeff Blake is NOT going to outrun any linebacker as he can in this game)...the gameplay is just generally lacking. The run seems quirky, the pass has it\'s own flaws (one of my biggest peeves being that the icons over the recievers are too small). Meanwhile on defense you never feel like you\'re fully in control unless you\'re controlling a defensive lineman, in which case it\'s far too easy to get the sack.
But gameplay has been an issue that\'s been addressed on forums and in publications, it\'s no secret ESPN is lacking in that department. But now, how about it\'s other selling point, presentation? No question they hit it big here. They took the ESPN license, and flat out abused it...they got everything they could out of it, now I can only hope they do the same for ESPNBA:) But realistically...how much of this \'presentation\' will matter months from now, when the NFL season is in full swing...when you REALLY feel like playing a football game? After, assumingly, plenty of games already, will you really want to sit through just another half time show...just another \'sportscenter\'? I submit most will not, as I myself find both to be cool features...but after a while, they grow stale.
There is a feature I\'m still looking into...and that\'s the online leagues. The online trading most definitely sounds interesting...but how to find a dedicated league on a game with such a shaky following...having gained many of it\'s fans through it\'s latest entry?
I just think Madden will, once again, be the better all around product, offering much of the same, if not more than ESPN did. ESPN is definitely a fine holdover, however, and a steal at $20.
