Getting my wisdom teeth out

The worst part about getting your wisdom teeth out is the gauze and the persistent taste of blood. The pain is manageable after a couple of days(just like braces).

The swelling sucks though. Your jaw will still be swollen almost a week after you feel fine.

Man, I might just be unusual, but I thought the whole procedure was nothing.  Barely hurt, the bleeding/gauze phase lasted a few hours then was done, I was eating normally the next day, and I went out that night.  The pain was really nothing.  I\'ve been through MUCH worse dental procedures (I play hockey, my two front teeth are fake now).

Oh, and I also requested not to be knocked out for the whole thing :p

I feel lucky that I have never had any problems with my wisdom teeth.

You have a 50/50 chance of it being the most miserable experience of your life!

No $hit, but I can give you some advice and PAY ATTENTION TO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO NOT RINCE OUT YOUR MOUTH FOR 3 DAYS AT LEAST!!

Eat only things that melt or can be "gummed" do not let ANYTHING get stuck in the back by your holes.

I ate mac and cheese and thought I would rince my mouth out with that little squirter they gave me.....BAD MOVE. I rinced away my blood clots and caused a Dry Socket! Let me tell you 2 Vicodins would not even touch the pain! It was the most extreme pain ever and it did not stop for about 2 weeks. I had to go back every other day and get my holes (bottom) repacked with this nasty crap for 2 weeks. It was a brutal ordeal, but I made it worse by rincing my mouth.

My wife on the other hand was eating fine in a couple of days. Just be carefull, those clots have to develope and STAY there for a while until your mouth heals. I know it sucks but you can live with out brushing your teeth or rincing your mouth for a few days.

If you do rince do nOt let the water/solution get anywhere near the back of your mouth, keep food and drinks away from there too.

It\'s a bitch but you can make it better by not being stupid (like me lol)

avoid dry sockets at all cost!

I just went to the dentist for the first time in 8 years yesterday.

I gotta get my wisdom teeth out too. I will do it after I get back from florida. I only had one tiny cavity that they will just laser out.

not bad for 8 years of no dentist....

I have all 4 wisdom teeth still.  They came in fine.  Never had a cavity either. The only problem is that I have a bit of an over bite so I grind my teeth while sleeping.  And Ive damaged my front teeth a little bit.

I had to get my wisdom teeth out in high school and it wasn\'t that bad.  They knocked me out with an IV and woke up in a different room.  It was crazy coming back to reality, when the nurse asked me to say something my speech was all garbled and I couldn\'t really make any cohesive sentences for about 5 mins.

When I got home I had to keep the gauze in for about a day and couldn\'t eat any solid food for like 2-3 days.  You also have to rinse your mouth out with saltwater for a week or so.  Some people get it really bad though...

hope you don\'t have a dry sockets ;)

Buy some Ibuprofen...

The name brand of that would be Advil...
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

My front is still a little numb. I hope they didn\'t hit the nerve. The rest of my mouth is woken up. Other than that, I\'m in a bit of pain but nothing I can\'t handle. I hope my front wakes up soon so I can eat.

Did the same thing as Gman2, bad move.  My head looked like a soccerball and I was out of school for a week.

My stitches didn\'t dissolve until about three weeks after the surgery.  You\'ll want to eat solids way before then, and it\'s okay too.  Just use your front teeth to chew.

The novicane hasn\'t fully worn off yet. There\'s a slight tingle. They put too much of that crap in me. My right cheek is swollen but my left isn\'t. This isn\'t too bad. It sucked when I took my biomed sensors off (damn hair). I\'m not in a tremendous amount of pain and the painkillers I took 6 hours ago should have started wearing out on me. Even without them, it wasn\'t too bad. Maybe it will be a walk in the park for my. My mom had problems, my bro had problems (but he had to still swim after he got his out which screwed him over). My dad went to work the next day (although I\'m gonna try and milk it on saturday at work because I\'m there for 8 hours and don\'t feel like being there). I seem to have more of my dad\'s health. That and I\'m always active either in marching band, lacrosse or running/weightlifting....sortof....in the off season. Thanks for all your help guys.
