DNS error (Network Adapter)
« on: July 06, 2004, 09:00:33 AM »

So I finally picked up a Network Adapter with Splinter Cell PT today expecting to have a night of online action, but the frickin thing keeps giving me a DNS error when testing the connection.

Has anybody else experience this problem and fixed it? Because I\'ve followed the guides at uk.playstation.com and they\'re worthless because I\'m still getting this bloody error.

Same here

i have mine patched through a router and AOL....

It works with Champions of Norrah but it won\'t with Socom II because i think it requires you to register with Central Station.

Anway i phoned up Sony support and they are sending me out a new NA disk that will solve the problem.

Found this over at the ps2 forums, going to try it now, better work :D

Pass All Diagnostic Tests But Cant Get to Central Station

If you pass all tests, your PS2 is ready to go online!

However, lots of peeps get a message "Central Station Can\'t be Contacted, Please Check your settings and try again".

This is just a bug (Please note, you must ensure you pass the diag test first).

If this is you, Do this!:

First, go to the “Get Connected” Menu, and then choose “Edit Network Configuration”. Copy down all of the current settings that pass the Diagnostic test. Once done, exit the screen.

Next, enter the PlayStation 2 Memory Card Browser screen by first ejecting the Network Access Disc and then resetting the consoles with no disc inside the machine.

Choose the “Browser” option and select your memory card.

Locate all “Central Station Settings” Save Files and also “Your Network Configuration” Save Files and delete them.

Then enter the Network Access Disc and create a new configuration file that is identical to the original configuration that passed the test.

Run the Diagnostic test to ensure it is correct and then go through to Central Station!

Simple as that!

why do you have DNS server set as your router IP?

192.168.0.1 = gateway, hardly a DNS server

running it on same router as PC connection?

type ipconfig /all at dos prompt
there\'s your DNS

mm hit it on the nail.

The DNS is submitted by your Provider. Either type in the above in mm\'s post or check your ISP provider. Actually, if you check your router which is most likely gets the IP dynamically (DHCP), you should be able to find the primary and secondary DNS address there. Good luck!

That\'s what the automatic thingy on the network disc gave me, but after reading through some forums I configed it manually and got all the green lights. But I still haven\'t managed to get online using the Internet Connection Sharing with XP, I\'ve phoned Sony up, read all the guides but its still fugged up. :banghead:

Windows ICS??  *gag*

Your router should facilitate sharing the internet over a single IP.

can you surf the internet using a second computer hooked up exactly like the PS2 using the same configuration?

No proxy server?

You might also have to configure port routing on your router. Not sure if I had to do mine. If it helps you - it took me ages for me to get my nick registered at central - seems to be very slow.

Nothing on port routing? Perhaps you can put your PS2 in the DMZ (demilitrized zone sp?) and see if it works then. Or hook up the PS2 directly to your internet connection (not through the router) and try it if it works. You will of course have to change the config for that though if you choose to bypass the router (probably switching to DHCP --> depends your ISP).

excellent point.

MAKAVELIUK,

doesn\'t your router include a hub? If yes, connect the IP directly to the hub (that is if your router has multiple RJ45 slots).

If it doesn\'t - consider buying a hub and hook them up like this:

[ ISP ] <------> [ Router ] <-------> [ Hub ] <-------> [ WinXP client ]
........................................................^
........................................................|
...................................................[ PS2 ]
