A recent approval by the USPTO illustrates the basic outline of the logo which will brand the PS3 console. The end result is not surprising.

Way back in December of 1999, Sony’s Japan office submitted the upcoming PS3 logo for approval. Now, over four years later, the United States Patent and Trademark Office approved the design which was submitted. According to the “mark” generated by the TARR system on this page, the PS3 logo will follow along the lines of its predecessors. The illustration shows the logo in blunt black and white form, so the colors of the logo which will be present in the final design is still under wraps.

Sorry to everyone who thought the logo would be new and vibrant, but it appears as though this design will see the PlayStation console through its third life. Perhaps Sony might want to try something new for the PS4? But, let’s not get started on that just yet.

Didnt they get the rights to that right after ps2 launched?

Im not surprised.

See, we all know that 4 doesnt fit well with PS. I guess you could make it but if sony\'s 4th outing carries the name ps4, im going to be pissed. Maybe even PSIV (4) i could hadle but come on. Its always exciting to know less about a new console a few years before it comes out.

Maybe they want to make a ps dynasty:rolleyes:

its psychological, if the logo and the name didnt matter the name and the logo would be "Game thing 1", "Game thing 2" etc

More people than you think. Of course i wouldnt not buy something just because of that but it does have a fair effect on people.

to each his own.

Personally, if we got up to ps 9 id be more than a little sick of it. It doesnt feel as new when you name the next gen console basically the same name as the last.

Yeah...when I went to this link waiting for the page to load, I was so excited :eek: And then when it loaded I was like WTF? :stick: :(

It said that the colors aren\'t confirmed, so maybe it\'ll look friggin cool. That\'s about the only thing we can look forward to concerning the logo, I guess.

No the only colors that we could possibly get excited about are the ones of the actuall console. You have very thin PS3 letters in the same PS2 shape and a new color. Any color wont look facinating enough to make up for the fact that its the same theme logo.
